Fighter variants/Minor bosses
Does not currently include every fighter variant (Melee event match variants, World of Light variants, Spirit Board variants, etc.)
Honestly, I don't even know if all (or any) of these should be included, seeing as they are minor texture/size/attribute swaps of preexisting fighters.

Characters in moveset
Characters in stage
As stage hazards
These characters are stage hazards, as they can interact with players or influence the stage, while being part of the stage.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, stage hazards can be turned on or off. If stage hazards are off, most of these characters will not appear, yet some will still appear as background characters.
As background
These characters appear in the stage background, they don't have any impact on battle. If stage hazards is off, these characters will still appear, but some not appear because some stage will not switch. In addition, some stage hazard characters will still appear when stage hazards is off, but they will lose their ability, at this point they become the background characters.
Notes
- ^ a b c d e f The stage hazard character will still appear as background character when stage hazards are off.
- ^ a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p The character will still appear in stage of Ω form or Battlefield form.
- ^ a b The background character not appear in normal form stage when stage hazards are off.

These characters appear as spawnable items.
