Peach (ピーチ, Peach) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Peach was revealed for the game along with the rest of the veterans on June 12th, 2018. However, unlike previous Smash Bros. games since Melee (her first playable appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series), Peach is now an unlockable character rather than being available from the start. She is classified as fighter #13.

As in SSB4, Samantha Kelly's portrayal of Peach from Brawl was repurposed for Ultimate.

How to unlock

Complete one of the following:

With the exception of the third method, Peach must then be defeated on Princess Peach's Castle.

Attributes

Peach is a light and floaty character with below-average mobility in all aspects (barring her air acceleration, which is now tied with Wario's as the second-best in the game), which means that she has poor survivability and is weak to juggling, but is difficult to combo. Despite Peach's otherwise slow aerial mobility, she still obtains a excellent aerial game. Her aforementioned air acceleration, as well as her access to her unique floating ability while in midair, can help her to control space and become very difficult to punish.

At the same time, Peach herself has many grounded combo starters, noticeably in her down tilt, which meteor smashes grounded opponents. Thanks to meteor smashes on grounded opponents no longer being techable, Peach's down tilt, which itself has been sped up from previous installments, can reliably combo into many different moves, such as her forward aerial and up aerial.

Peach also has a projectile called Vegetable, which has been significantly increased in both speed and power, as the damage output and knockback of each turnip has been increased, the turnips are pulled out quicker, and they have less ending lag when thrown. As such, turnips are highly effective and versatile projectiles that can create mix-ups and greatly help her neutral game. The move also has a 1/250 chance of spawning a powerful Bob-omb, and a 1/166 chance of spawning a shield-shattering Mr. Saturn.

Peach does of course have drawbacks, mainly relating to her slow movement. Faster opponents may be able to overwhelm her before she can begin throwing vegetables or otherwise defend herself. If thrown into the air, she can have difficulty landing, and this along with her low weight makes her susceptible to juggling and vertical KOs. Peach's ability to approach suffers against characters with long reach and disjoints, as she lacks the agility to get in close before they can hit her. Her recovery is also a potential point of failure, as while she can travel a great deal of horizontal distance, she is left vulnerable if forced to rely on Peach Parasol, and her vertical recovery is average at best (discounting the incredibly dangerous and situational Bob-omb), as well as predictable and slow, making it possible for her to be gimped.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Peach has been considerably buffed from the transition from SSB4 to Ultimate. As with most characters, Peach's mobility has been significantly improved (but is relatively similar to in SSB4), greatly aiding her approach and combo game. The new short hop multiplier which makes short hop aerials weaker affects Peach less than other returning veterans, as she can use her float to bypass the multiplier and still use her aerials low to the ground. This not only makes them more damaging, but it also gives them more shieldstun compared to most aerials in the game, which when combined with the lower landing lag on her aerials gives her excellent shield pressure. Most of her moves remain largely identical to their SSB4 counterparts, although some of her moves have seen improvements. Her new down tilt is significantly faster, and it cannot be teched, making it a consistently powerful combo tool. Peach can now choose which weapon she wants to use with her forward smash, greatly improving its reliability. Peach Bomber is also faster and stronger, improving its recovery and KO potential. Lastly, her Vegetables are stronger and faster both to pluck and to throw.

Peach has received a few nerfs, however. Like with many returning veterans, her grabs are considerably slower, making it harder for her to grab her opponents and begin her strong grab game (especially since her dash grab also has more startup lag). Her forward aerial now has a weaker sourspot, making it more difficult to use effectively. Lastly, while the weakening of rage means that Peach will not die as easily to opponents who benefit from it more than she does, it has made Peach Parasol less effective when she is at higher percents, and her down aerial's new angle makes it more difficult for her to combo her down aerial into Peach Parasol.

Overall, Peach has been considerably improved from her SSB4 incarnation with her superior mobility and combo game, and has achieved excellent results at high levels of competitive play so far thanks to players such as Samsora, CaptainZack, MuteAce and Zinoto. Due to her overwhelming advantages and excellent results, players have not only debated if Peach is a top-tier, but have also talked about her potentially being the absolute best character in the game, akin to Pikachu in Smash 64, Fox in Melee, Meta Knight in Brawl and Bayonetta in SSB4. However, this is still greatly up for debate.

Aesthetics

  •   As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Peach's model features a more subdued color scheme. Her hair and gloves now feature simple detailing, similar to her design in Brawl. Her dress retains its design from the previous iteration, but now features a glossy satin texture.
  •   Peach's particle effects have been enhanced. Her pink heart effects are larger and more visually striking.
  •   Like other fighters, Peach is more expressive, having angrier facial expressions durkng many of her attacks.
  •   Peach's dress now has independent physics, like in Melee.
  •   Peach always faces the screen regardless of which direction she turns. As a result, her stance, moveset, and animations are now mirrored.
    •   This allows the player to see which turnip face is held when facing left.
  •   Peach's taunts have been tweaked.
    •   Down taunt now has a heart pop up next to her head. She also no longer spins, and winks immediately.
    •   Side taunt has been shortened, as she now only dances back and forth once instead of three times, though the music notes still appear.
    •   Peach performs her up taunt faster.
  •   Peach's second jump animation has changed slightly.
  •   Peach no longer spins during her air dodge animation.
  •   While floating, Peach now faces the screen instead of facing the side, and her dress no longer puffs up while she floats.
  •   Peach has a new alternate costume—a golden dress. It replaces her Princess Daisy-inspired costume, most likely due to Daisy now being a separate character as Peach's Echo Fighter.
  •   Two of Peach's victory animations have been changed, while one is slightly edited. [1]
  •   Peach's stun animation is sped up.

Attributes

  •   Like all characters, Peach's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete (down from 5).
  •   Peach jumps slightly higher.
  •   Peach walks slightly faster (0.86 → 0.924).
  •   Peach runs faster (1.4175 → 1.595).
    •   Peach's initial dash is significantly faster (1.5 → 1.826).
  •   Peach's traction has been increased (0.068 → 0.111).
  •   Peach's base air acceleration has been increased (0.01 → 0.04), but her additional air acceleration has been reduced (0.1 → 0.08). This increases her total air acceleration (0.11 → 0.12) but gives her less control over her air speed.
  •   Peach's air speed is faster (0.95 → 1.029).
    •   As a result, Peach's floating speed and distance have improved.
  •   If used while floating, Peach's aerials still behave like ground moves when hitting shields, thus now granting them more shieldstun compared to short hop aerials.
  •   Peach's falling speed and fast falling speed are slightly faster (1.15 → 1.19) and (1.84 → 1.904) respectively.
  •   Peach's gravity has been increased (0.068 → 0.07).

Ground attacks

  • Neutral attack:
    •   The first hit of neutral attack has altered angles (74°/78° → 361°/180°) allowing it to lock opponents.
    •   The first hit of neutral attack has a shorter duration (frames 2-3 → 2). It also no longer has set knockback (20 (set), 100 (scaling) → 30/20 (base), 25/15 (scaling)) making it connect less reliably with the second hit at higher percents.
  • Forward tilt:
    •   Sweetspotted forward tilt has more range.
  • Down tilt:
    •   Down tilt has been changed from a sweep with her hand to a sweep kick.
    •   Down tilt is significantly faster with less startup (frame 13 → 8) and ending lag (frame 28 → 24) and like with all grounded meteor smashes, it can no longer be teched, making it much more consistent for combos.
    •   Down tilt now lacks intangibility.
  • Up tilt:
    •   The stronger and weaker hits have been reversed: the hitbox on the heart is now stronger than the hitbox on her shoulders, much like in Brawl.
  • Dash attack:
    •   First hit of dash attack combos into the second hit much more reliably.
    •   Second hit of dash attack has a slightly larger hitbox (5u/4u → 5u/4.5u).
    •   Dash attack now has hearts at the end of the move.
    •   Dash attack's second hit has reduced knockback scaling (140 → 130).
  • Forward smash:
    •   Forward smash no longer cycles between its three weapons in a set order, instead being determined by which angle the stick is held. This greatly improves its reliability, letting Peach use a particular weapon repeatedly without having to telegraph it.
      •   Peach can switch to whichever weapons she wants to use during her charging animation for forward smash (depending on angle).
    •   The tennis racket deals slightly more damage (13% → 13.5%), and now lacks a sourspot.
  • Down smash:
    •   Down smash's animation has been reversed, with Peach spinning towards the screen rather than away from it.
    •   Down smash has a greater amount of possible hits (5 hits → 7)
    •   Down Smash now deals consistent damage (2%/3% (hits 1-4) → 2% (hits 1-6), 11%-15% → 15% (total)).
    •   All the multi-hits have less startup lag and the move has an overall longer duration due to having more hits.
    •   The final hit has more startup lag (frame 26 → 30).
  • Up smash:
    •   Up smash has an additional hitbox at the tip, where a heart graphic appears at the end of the ribbon.

Aerial attacks

  •   All aerials have less landing lag (11 frames → 7 (neutral), 22 frames → 13 (forward), 18 frames → 11 (back), 12 frames → 7 (up), 13 frames → 8 (down)).
  • Forward aerial:
    •   Forward aerial now has a magic-like trail of red and turquoise sparkles emerging from Peach's crown.
    •   Forward aerial now has a sourspot, dealing 1% less damage and deals less knockback (45 (base), 84 (scaling) → 50/76). The sweetspot also has reduced knockback (45 (base), 84 (scaling) → 50/78).
  • Back aerial:
    •   Back aerial now has hearts emerging from near Peach's rear.
  • Down aerial:
    •   Down aerial's hitbox size has been reduced.

Throws/other attacks

  •   Dash grab has more startup lag (frame 8 → 9) and all of her grabs have more ending lag (frame 32 → 37 (standing), frame 40 → 45 (dash), frame 38 → 40 (pivot)).
  •   Toad now appears when Peach grabs an opponent to attack alongside her when she uses her pummel and throws. Toad also still appears in her back throw and up throw, despite not directly attacking the opponent.
    •   Because of this, Peach has a new pummel, where Toad punches the opponent.
    •   Peach has a new forward throw, where Toad headbutts the opponent away.
    •   Peach also has a new down throw, where Toad headbutts the opponent into the ground.
    •   Her new down throw has more combo potential due to her faster jumpsquat and full hop.

Special moves

  • Toad:
    •   Toad has a different animation. Peach now ducks down covering her ears while Toad angrily appears in front of her in order to protect her.
    •   Toad has less startup lag and a longer duration (frames 10-34 → 8-34) and Toad also gains intangibility sooner (frame 11 → 8).
    •   Toad deals more damage per spore (2% → 3.5%).
    •   Toad now leaves Peach stationary in the air on the first use instead of making her hover upwards for a short time, making the move worse for edge-guarding and hindering its recovery potential. Toad's intangibility also has a shorter duration (frames 11-14 → 8-10).
  • Peach Bomber:
    •   Peach Bomber now deals more damage (10% → 12%) and knockback.
    •   Peach Bomber does more shield damage, depleting half the shield, making it a more reliable move.
    •   Peach Bomber now has less startup (frame 14 (grounded), frame 20 (aerial) → 13 (both)) and ending lag (frame 65 → 63 (grounded), frame 95 → 88 (aerial), frame 21 → 20 (hit)).
    •   Peach can control her drift much earlier during lag after an aerial Peach Bomber.
  • Peach Parasol:
    •   Peach Parasol has less landing lag when open.
    •   Peach Parasol's final hit now inflicts slightly more knockback.
    •   Peach Parasol has more landing lag when closed.
      •   To compensate this, Peach can reduce some of the lag by doing an attack.
    •   Peach Parasol deals significantly less knockback when it has opened up during Peach's descent.
      •   However, this also means that Peach can rack up more damage, similar to in Melee.
    •   The weakening of rage has significantly hindered Peach Parasol's KO potential with rage, as it can no longer OHKO opponents unless used near the upper blast line.
  • Vegetable:
    •   Turnips are pulled out much quicker (frame 43 → 37).
    •   Turnips travel faster, making it easier to hit opponents with them.
    •   Peach's item throw has slightly less ending lag, allowing for easier follow-ups (frame 27 → 25)
    •   All turnips deal more damage (2% → 5% (normal), 6% → 10% (winky-face), 12% → 16% (dot-eye), 23% → 24% (stitch-face)).
    •   Turnips have altered knockback (30 (base), 35 (scaling) → 25/45) improving their combo potential at lower percents as well as improving their edgeguarding and KO potential at higher percents when combined with their increased power levels.
      •   However, this also hinders their combo potential at higher percents.
    •   Turnips can now beat certain hitboxes (instead of clanking with them), such as opponents' up specials.

Update history

Due to top players saying that she's a top-tier character, Peach has received a mix of buffs and nerfs, but has been nerfed overall. Her Toad can no longer be used to stall indefinitely in the air, it can stall only at first use and her vegetables deal less shield damage making the move less safe against the shields.

  1.1.0

  •   Dash attack's knockback scaling has reduced (140 → 130).

  2.0.0

  •   Peach Parasol's multi-hits have reduced knockback.
    •   This makes it less likely for the move to KO at 0%.
    •   Consecutive hits will connect better in some scenarios.
  •   It is now easier to grab ledges with Peach Parasol.
  •   Peach Blossom's camera has been adjusted. The borders will now always display correctly in scrolling stages.

  3.0.0

  •   Toad no longer stalls continuously in the air after the first use.
  •   The launch angles of Peach Parasol's multihits have been adjusted, preventing scenarios where the opponent would be launched at a great distance when hit from the ledge.
  •   Vegetable deals less shield damage.
  •   Peach Blossom has a reduced sleep time period.
  •   The animations for Peach's ledge attack and swinging animation have been adjusted.

Moveset

  • Peach can float for 2.5 seconds.

Note: All numbers are listed as base damage, without the 1v1 multiplier.

  Name Damage Description
Neutral attack   2% Slaps the enemy twice with the same arm (either her left or right depending on which way she faces). At low percentages, the first hit can lock.
3%
Forward tilt   7% (early, clean leg), 8% (clean foot) Kicks forward 180 degrees from low to high. Has good range for a forward tilt, and unusually for an attack of its type, launches opponents vertically, allowing it to perform air combos and juggles.
Up tilt   10% (blast), 8% (arm) Extends her arm upward, creating a discharge of pink magic in the form of a heart.
Down tilt   7% A low sweep kick. This move meteor smashes grounded opponents. A decently strong attack with moderate startup that can follow up into a forward smash at lower percents, forward or up aerials at mid-percents, and into an up special at higher percents. Due to the removal of teching for grounded meteor smashes, Peach's down tilt has better combo potential.
Dash attack   4% (hit 1), 6% (hit 2) Creating magical sparks in her hands, Peach strikes with both arms extended forward, then quickly spreads her arms out.
Forward smash   18% (frying pan), 15% (golf club), 13.5% (tennis racket) Strikes with a bludgeon, depending on the angle of the attack: angling upward uses the frying pan, angling downward uses the tennis racket, and no angling uses the golf club. Each weapon has different properties—the frying pan has more vertical knockback (and the most damage), the golf club has more diagonal knockback (and the most range), and the tennis racket has more horizontal knockback and is a strong semi-spike.
Up smash Ribbon Dance 12% (ribbon), 17% (heart) Raises her arm and twirls a pink ribbon. A heart appears at the tip of the ribbon, which is where the sweetspot is located. Her head and arm become intangible for the duration of the move (frames 14-20).
Down smash   2% (hits 1-6), 3% (hit 7) Peach does a counterclockwise spin on her leg and utilizes the edge of her dress, slashing multiple times.
Neutral aerial   13% (clean), 6% (late arms), 5% (late body) Spins around at an angle with arms extended, dealing damage to her left and right sides. The late hit can lock.
Forward aerial   15% (crown), 14% (arm) Peach grabs the crown off her head and strikes with it in a vertical arc with red and turquoise magic sparkles emerging from the crown. Has the slowest startup out of all her aerial attacks. However, it is also her strongest aerial if sweetspotted. Her arm possesses a sourspot that deals 1% less damage, and KOs much later.
Back aerial   12% (clean), 10.2% (mid), 7% (late) Peach strikes behind her by thrusting her butt. She creates a heart, although it is aesthetic, and possesses no hitbox. At low percentages, even the clean hit can lock.
Up aerial   4% (hit 1), 6% (hit 2) Swipes above her head with her arms from left to right, creating two magic rainbow trails. When low floating, only the second hit will hit medium to large opponents, while small characters avoid it entirely.
Down aerial   2% (hits 1-3), 5% (hit 4) Rapidly kicks straight downwards four times. Depending on how the last hit lands, may launch opponents behind her. From a short hop, it can even combo another down aerial after her double jump.
Grab   Reaches out with her arm. An average grab, though Toad appears when Peach has grabbed an opponent.
Pummel   1.3% Toad punches the opponent.
Forward throw   2% (hit 1), 8% (throw) Toad leaps forward, headbutting the opponent away.
Back throw   2% (hit 1), 9% (throw) Places opponent behind her and bumps them away with her butt. Toad is present, mimicking Peach's butt thrust, but does not contribute any damage. Peach's strongest throw, and the only one that can KO at reasonable percents.
Up throw   2% (hit 1), 6% (throw) Puts opponent above her, and strikes them upward. Toad leaps up with Peach, but does not hit the opponent.
Down throw   1% (hit 1), 7% (throw) After putting the opponent on the ground, Toad leaps up and headbutts them, sending them upward and behind Peach. Good for starting combos, as it can lead to her back air and forward tilt at low to mid percents.

Neutral special Toad 3.5% (per hit) Peach covers her ears with a terrified expression and turns away as Toad appears in front of her, arms spread out. If hit, Toad will retaliate with a spray of spores, and Peach will wince. If attacked from behind, Peach and Toad switch places.
Side special Peach Bomber 12% Peach lunges her body forward to deliver a powerful butt bash. Upon impact, she rebounds away from the victim, allowing for hit-and-run tactics. Deals considerable shield damage. Smash-inputting the move has her travel further.
Up special Peach Parasol 3% (first hit), 1% (hits 2-5), 2% (last hit), 2% (open) Peach jumps upward and then opens her parasol, jabbing those above her in the process. It can then be used as a directional glide but can also be opened or closed at will.
Down special Vegetable Varies Plucks a Super Mario Bros. 2 Vegetable from the ground. She can then throw it as a projectile item. Its face determines how much damage it will do; the rarer the expression, the stronger the turnip. Along with turnips, Peach can rarely pull out Mr. Saturns and Bob-ombs.
Final Smash Peach Blossom 30% (close), 20% (mid), 10% (far) Peach performs a dance, causing all of her enemies to fall asleep. The closer they are to her when she activates it, the more damage they will take and the longer they will slumber. Three giant peaches appear, healing 20%. This Final Smash fails to affect anyone outside the range of the screen borders.

On-screen appearance

  • Appears spinning out of a shower of hearts, then winks and poses with her parasol saying "Hi!".

Taunts

  • Up taunt: Faces the screen, and takes out and twirls her parasol. She says "Sweet!" as she does this.
  • Side taunt: Dances once in a taunting manner as little music notes flutter around her, while singing "La la la la laaa laaa!" in a tune similar to "Ring Around the Rosie".
  • Down taunt: Faces the screen, and winks and points with her index finger in a somewhat bent posture and says "Uh-huh!" A heart will also pop up by her head.

Idle poses

  • Looks over her shoulders and brushes something off her dress.
  • Raises arms up and stretches.
  • Adjusts her ring before raising her hand and looking at it.
  • Fiddles with her hair.

Victory poses

  • Whilst motioning from right to left, she leans on her parasol. She then raises it while doing a stationary twirl, and poses with it open while resting it on her shoulder. Throughout the motioning, she says "Aw, did I win?"
  • Twirls with her arms raised as hearts surround her. Afterwards, she poses with her right hand on her hip and her left hand up towards her chest while saying "This is fun!"
  • Whilst walking in from offscreen, she waves, blows a kiss (in the form of a pink heart), and says "Peachy!" Afterwards, she rests her right arm across her waist, and waves with her left hand.

Finding Peach in World of Light

Although Peach does not appear in the World of Light opening cutscene, she was vaporized and later imprisoned alongside the rest of the fighters (except Kirby) when Galeem unleashed his beams of light.

Peach is in a desolate platform in the Molten Fortress sub-area where Giga Bowser is fought, a callback to her usual role as a damsel in distress.

Trivia

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the first Smash Bros. game where Peach holds an object, specifically her parasol, in her official artwork.
  • One of Peach's new victory poses resembles part of her Hole-in-One animation from Mario Golf: World Tour, albeit without the parasol.
  • There are two inconsistencies on Peach's model that were not present in her model in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U:
    • The red lace at the bottom of her dress will vanish when viewed from inside.[1]
    • Looking around her neck will expose a gap.[2]
  • Possibly due to Daisy being an Echo Fighter of her, this is the first Smash game where Peach no longer has her Daisy-based alternate costume since Melee.
  • Peach is the only character who travels to Mushroom Kingdom in Classic Mode.
  • Peach is one of five characters whose unlocking battle in World of Light is not on either Final Destination or an Ω form. The other four are Toon Link, Daisy, King K. Rool, and Mii Gunner.
