Peach (SSBU)/Down smash
Overview[edit]
Peach spins rapidly on her left leg, using the edge of her dress to slash the opponent. Down smash is a multihit, inflicting a maximum of 15% damage (21% when fully charged) with all seven hits. Its fairly high damage combined with its low-hitting hitboxes can be used to shield poke. However, it is deceptively weak for a smash attack, with roughly similar launching power to an average forward tilt. As a result, it is one of the weakest down smashes in the game.
However, down smash is very fast, hitting both sides on frame 6; for example, it can be used as a quick punish from a spot dodge cancel, as a combo finisher on grounded opponents, or buffered from a parry to cover cross-up landings. On the other hand, it has the latest FAF of her smash attacks, and one of the latest of all her moves, making the move very punishable both on shield and on whiff.
Down smash also hits slightly below stage, with the far hits reaching slightly lower. Instead of 2 frame punishing the opponent with down tilt, she can perform down smash. The multihits are less consistent when hitting opponents off stage, especially the lower they are hit, but unexpected fall-outs can situationally work in Peach's favor, namely with fast-fallers.
