Chain Chomps (ワンワン, Wanwan) are recurring enemies in the Mario games. Chain Chomps are a canine-like species that are round and made of metal. They have a giant mouth filled with large, sharp teeth. Chain Chomps are also very aggressive and will attempt to lunge and bite the player. Typically in Mario games, Chain Chomps are restrained by a metal chain.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Chain Chomps make a minor appearance in Brawl as a background character in Yoshi's Island, and it appears as both a trophy and a sticker.

Chain Chomp

A black, spherical character thought to be made of some metal, such as iron. Although usually tethered down with a chain, Chain Chomps will eagerly chomp at passersby, inflicting major damage. In Super Mario 64, a Chain Chomp appears in the first level. It cannot be defeated, but you can daze it temporarily by throwing bombs at it.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

Chain Chomps appear in both version of Super Smash Bros. 4 as an Assist Trophy. Once summoned, it will try to lunge at enemy players nearby. Chain Chomps can also appear as enemies in Smash Run in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS with the same function. They can only be defeated by destroying the wooden holder that the chain chomp is rooted by. Doing this is a daunting task, as the chain chomp will almost always be surrounded by other tough enemies that will get in your way, and if there isn't the chain chomp will bite you butt off, so use ranged attacks! The Chain Chomp trophy is also a blue item in Smash Tour in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that will launch away nearby opponents when used.

A headgear based on the species, the Chomp Hat, is available to Mii Fighters. It is randomly available in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, but in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it must be unlocked by getting a chain of 100 or more in a single game of Trophy Rush.

Trophy Description

This beast frequently appears in the Super Mario series, and it is definitely equal parts bark and bite. No surprise it's often chained to something. In Smash Bros., it's connected to a stump in the ground and will lash out at anyone who gets close. Don't even bother trying to teach it manners.

An iron ball with a face, complete with shiny white teeth, that shows up fairly often in the Mario series. They're impossible to tame, so they're almost always chained to a post, and this game's no exception. Seriously, don't go anywhere near them unless you want to end up a Chomp's dinner.

Chain Chomps first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and have become a recurring character since. In most games, Chain Chomps are tethered to chains and will try to lunge and bite the player if close enough. The design of the Chain Chomp in Super Smash Bros. 4 is similar to their modern look in contemporary 3D Mario games; however, the chain itself originates from the chain in Super Mario Bros. 3 as it was simply circles representing the chain.
