Notices are a feature present in every game of the Super Smash Bros. series. They act somewhat similarly to achievements in other video games, for example showing up to announce that a new character or stage has been unlocked or that a game mode has been cleared for the first time. The number of notices obtainable per game tends to increase with each game in the series; for example, up from only seven notices in the original Super Smash Bros., Brawl has 113.
Melee has nearly nine times more notices as the previous game, bringing the total up to sixty, not including messages attained from unlocking trophies. If said messages are counted, the total number of notices will be 63.
Two bonuses are also exclusive to the West, for unlocking the Samus Unmasked and Mario and Yoshi trophies; in Japan, the two trophies were only available in giveaways, while in the NTSC and PAL regions, the player had to hack the game to get them.
Japanese notices also include English text above the actual notice box telling players what they have received; trophies, for instance, say "Figure get!!".
Note: Pokémon names are all uppercase in the PAL version.
Unlike previous installments, the notices in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U are called Milestones.
