He's not very fast, but he's one of few heavyweight fighters with great recovery. Apparently, a defeat by Kirby inspired him to train hard to learn a move called Hovering, which allows him to float after taking a deep breath.

King Dedede (デデデ, Dedede) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was confirmed on June 12th, 2018. King Dedede’s voice cilps from Super Smash Bros. 4 has been repurposed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, of which he was voiced by the series creator, Masahiro Sakurai.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

NOTE: SmashWiki is not speculative. Please refrain from adding detailed data values derived from pre-release gameplay footage, such as the E3 demo. Such data (damage values, launch trajectories, frame data, etc.) are subject to change before the official release.

Aesthetics

  •   King Dedede's clothing and general design is more cartoonish, with higher contrast colors and simplified detailing on clothing.
  •   Subtle textural changes to the stars on his hammer give the illusion that they protrude slightly, as depicted in his official artwork.
  •   His clothes have been given more detail. The fur on his coat and hat appears fluffier and more detailed, and his obi has more depth.
  •   Like many other characters, King Dedede is more expressive, both with his face and especially his movements.
  •   Down taunt now has a more exaggerated animation.
  •   Hammer spinning victory pose now finishes with his hammer transforming into the Jet Hammer.

Attributes

  •   Like all characters, King Dedede's jumpsquat animation now takes 3 frames to complete, a massive improvement over its previous 6 frames.

Ground attacks

  •   Neutral infinite's finisher deals significantly more knockback, and its loop hits are much faster and trap opponents more easily.
  •   Up tilt and down tilt can be reversed upon start up.
  •   Forward tilt has an altered animation and lower ending lag.
  •   King Dedede's up smash has a larger hitbox, making it more likely to hit nearby opponents.

Aerial moves

  •   Neutral aerial now causes King Dedede's belly to wobble around during the move.
  •   Forward aerial has reduced ending lag.
  •   King Dedede has a new back aerial, which is now a horizontal hammer swing that better matches the move's hitboxes. It also has significantly less ending lag.
  •   Up aerial has reduced ending lag, and has better range and power than in previous games.
  •   Down aerial deals much more knockback.

Throws/other attacks

  •   Down throw has an altered animation, with him slamming his opponent face-first onto the ground.

Special moves

  •   King Dedede now has the ability to inhale and spit back projectiles, including his own Gordos.
  •   The Gordos spawned by Gordo Throw have smaller pupils and animated spines.
  •   The Gordos spawned by Gordo Throw have significantly larger hitboxes that now cover the spines, as well as increased knockback.
  •   The fire from Jet Hammer is now blue instead of red.
  •   King Dedede has a new Final Smash. The Final Smash features King Dedede taking his "Masked Dedede" persona from Kirby Super Star Ultra before trapping opponents inside of a caged boxing ring, attacking them with a barrage of missiles, and launching them with his Jet Hammer. Unlike his Final Smash in Smash 4, it is not possible for opponents to escape once trapped.
  •   King Dedede's new Final Smash deals less damage. However, it deals greater knockback.
