Palutena (パルテナ, Palutena) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, officially confirmed on June 12th, 2018.
Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4
Aesthetics
- As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Palutena's model features a more subdued color scheme. Her chiton and armor feature simple detailing, and her face appears more realistic and expressive.
- While Palutena retains most of her design elements from SSB4, the slit in her chiton exposes less of her thigh, similar to the 1.0.6. update for Japanese releases of SSB4. The change was committed then due to age rating issues, and it was likely committed here for the same reason.
- While her official artwork depicts the top of the chiton's slit as fused together, a lateral line appears on the top of the slit in-game, making it look stitched together rather than intentionally fused.
- Palutena's sidestep now causes a visible "warping" effect when she disappears.
Attributes
- Like all characters, Palutena's jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.
Ground attacks
- Forward tilt and up tilt move significantly faster with flashier motion effects.
- Forward smash seems to have lower ending lag.
- Dash attack has lower ending lag.
- Dash attack goes a shorter distance.
Special Moves
- Palutena's down special now functions as both Counter and Reflect Barrier. If she's hit by a melee attack, Counter activates; if she's hit by a projectile, Reflect Barrier activates.
- Reflect Barrier has much quicker start-up.
- Palutena's old neutral special Custom Move, Explosive Flame, is now her side special move. It replaces Reflect Barrier, but her new down special effectively means that the move is still retained in her special moveset.

Trivia
- Palutena's new down special, alongside Confusion, are one of the two reflection moves that serve multiple functions, with hers serving as both a counterattack and reflector.
- Palutena's artwork was one of the three that have been updated on the official site, alongside Falco and Shulk. Her changes are the most noticeable: compared to her original artwork, her halo was made present, while her frontmost leg was made to be less exposed, with her dress now covering up more of her thigh.
