Article on Super Mario Wiki | Fire Flower |
The Fire Flower (ファイアフラワー, Faia Furawā) is a item in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. 4. When holding a Fire Flower, hitting the attack button will make the flower start spewing fire in front of the character. It originates from the Super Mario Bros. series.
- It can do up to 44% damage combined.
- By throwing and dropping it, it can do between 4-12% damage.
- The Fire Flower will last a combined 7 seconds.
- When using the Fire Flower in Super Smash Bros. Melee, characters cannot move or jump.
- In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fire Flowers, like all shooting items, can now be used while walking. [1]
- Being hit by a thrown Fire Flower will set the character on fire, as well as cause a little knockback, however, even at 999%, it cannot KO effectively when thrown.
- The flames can be reflected by Fox/Falco's reflector, Zelda's Nayru's Love, and Mario/Dr. Mario's cape. It can also be deflected by Mewtwo's Confusion, but doesn't hurt the opponent, and isn't very effective. The flames can also be absorbed in Ness and Lucas's PSI Magnet.
- Level 5 and above CPUs in the original Super Smash Bros. will never use the Fire Flower against Fox or Ness since Fox can reflect the flames and Ness can absorb them. Instead, they'll throw the Fire Flower at them.
Origin
The Fire Flower made its first appearance in Super Mario Bros. When the item is acquired, the player can shoot fireballs at enemies. An enemy hit by a fireball will instantly die. The fireballs don't stop bouncing until they hit a enemy or object. Fire Flowers have appeared in numerous Mario games since and they usually function the same way. In the Super Smash Bros. series, the Fire Flower shoots a stream of fire rather than a fireball. The design of the Fire Flower is also different for each of the Super Smash Bros. games: The design of the Fire Flowers in Super Smash Bros. comes from Super Mario Bros., the design in Melee resembles a daisy, which is the type of flower the Fire Flower is in Super Mario Bros., and the design in Brawl and SSB4 comes from the design used since New Super Mario Bros. Glitch
In Melee, the Fire Flower is used to cause the Ice Climbers on fire glitch. It causes the partner Climber to continuously release fire effects (though this fire doesn't do any damage).
Description from the Super Smash Bros. Instruction Booklet
Use the Fire Flower to blast your opponents with fiery breath. Be sure to get in close because even breath this bad can't reach too far!
Trophy Info
In Melee
Once you grab this item, press and hold down the A Button to make the flower breathe flames until its power gives out. The Fire Flower is incredibly useful when you want to push someone off the edge of a stage. In Super Mario Bros., it transformed Mario into Fire Mario, changing his garb and enabling him to throw fireballs.
In Brawl
A flower that breathes flames when you press and hold the attack button. The flames don't last forever, though--after a while, the flower will lose its fiery power. You can also throw Fire Flowers at enemies to set them on fire for a brief moment. In Super Mario Bros., Fire Flowers were used to transform Mario into Fire Mario.
