Article on Pikipedia Hocotate Ship

The Hocotate Bomb (ドルフィン爆弾, Dolphin Bomb) is an explosive item in Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate modeled after the Hocotate Ship in the Pikmin universe.

Origin[edit]

The design of the item is based on the Hocotate Ship from Pikmin 2, and its behaviour is similar to that of End of Day, Olimar's Final Smash. However, there is also an item with identical functionality from Kid Icarus: Uprising: the Boom Rocket.

Overview[edit]

When thrown, it will wait 3 seconds, or until it is attacked, before ascending offscreen into the sky, damaging and dragging any touching enemies with it for a potential KO, then crash down (a random time after 5 seconds) after its launch. If it receives enough damage before it flies off-screen, it will explode and damage anyone nearby. However, when it detonates on re-entry the resulting explosion will not harm the person who activated it. The crash landing also has a meteor effect on any opponent who makes contact with it. It's also possible to push the bomb away with wind and have it land in another spot though it may just pass through solid ground.

NTSC With the outward appearance of a Hocotate Freight ship, this is actually a bomb in disguise! Arm it by throwing it on the ground, and give it a nudge if you're impatient. It'll fly up into the sky, returning a short time later and exploding. Force your foes into the landing zone!

PAL The flagship of Hocotate Freight has been reinvented as...a bomb! To arm it, throw it, then wait. Or give it a nudge – up to you. It'll shoot up in the air, then after a bit, fall back down to its starting point and go off. Try to remember where it was set off – you really don't want to get caught in the blast.

Trivia[edit]

  • In version 1.0.4 of for Nintendo 3DS, if one uses a Hocotate Bomb on Mushroomy Kingdom, it's possible to see the bomb floating above the blast line, facing downward.
  • The Hocotate Bomb is known in Japanese as「ドルフィン爆弾」("Dolphin Bomb"). While the Hocotate ship itself has no proper name in English, its Japanese name is「ドルフィン初号機」("S.S. Dolphin first model") even though both ships are unrelated, as the S.S. Dolphin is Olimar's personal spaceship; meanwhile the Hocotate Freight Ship is a Hocotate Freight company ship used for cargo transportation and treasure collection.
