Chrom is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He serves as an Echo Fighter of Roy. Chrom’s appearance in the game was announced on August 8th, 2018.

Differences from Roy

Aesthetics

• Chrom has a different idle stance and different taunts. One taunt is based off of his official artwork in Fire Emblem Awakening, which pairs with the one done for Lucina's up taunt, counter, and render in SSB4.

Attributes

• Unlike Roy, Chrom's attacks lack a flame effect.
• Chrom's Falchion lacks a sweetspot and deals consistent damage throughout, like Lucina.

Ground attacks

• Forward tilt has a different animation, with Chrom holding Falchion in a proper grip, unlike Roy's reverse grip.

Special Moves

• Neutral special appears similar to Eruption, but without any flame effects. Instead, Chrom's sword charges with a wind effect before it unleashes a blue blast.
• Chrom's up special appears to be a faster version of Ike's. Instead of throwing his sword first, he performs an upwards slash.
• Chrom appears to have a unique Final Smash, inspired from Aether's portrayal in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Trivia

• Chrom is the first Echo Fighter based off of a clone (albeit a semi-clone), and the first Echo Fighter that borrows moves from two different characters.
• Chrom is the second character to be previously featured in a Final Smash to become a playable character, the first being Palutena, who appeared in Pit's Final Smash, Palutena's Army, in Brawl.
