    • Change The 7th Villager skin has red eyes instead of brown.
  • Change Clothing such as Villager's shorts have more movement while fighting.
  • Change Villager now faces more towards the screen like many other characters. Several animations, particularly those relating to walking and dashing, have been altered as a result.
  • Change Villager's bowling ball from his forward smash now lingers a bit on the ground.
  • Buff Players can now see what's inside the Villager's Pocket on the character HUD.

Attributes

  • Buff Like all characters, Villager's jumpsquat animation now only takes three frames to complete.

Ground attacks

  • Buff Villager now has a neutral infinite and a finisher, a straight jab.
  • Nerf Up tilt has less range.

Aerial attacks

  • Nerf Neutral aerial does less damage.
  • Buff Down aerial now will always meteor smash, regardless of how many turnips are used, greatly increasing its reliability.

Throws/other moves

  • Change Villager now has a shocked expression when he misses with his grab.
  • Buff Villager can now Pocket items using his net.
  • Buff Villager's edge attack covers more range.

Special Moves

  • Buff After catching a projectile with Pocket, Villager can act faster.
  • Nerf If Villager is hit out of Balloon Trip without touching the ground, he can use the move again but only with one balloon instead of two, slowing the move's ascent and making Villager more vulnerable to gimps.
  • Buff Timber can now bounce off the ground once. It also deals more damage.
  • Change Dream Home now has the house rotate while Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy build it.

Trivia

  • Villager is the only SSB4 newcomer to appear on the game's boxart.
  • In the E3 demo of the game, Villager's portrait, strangely, used his in-game model as opposed to the render made for him in the game, which has since been fixed. This was also the case with Mario and Pikachu.
