Maesuma'TOP 2 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Osaka, Kansai from January 31st-February 1st, 2026.
Tournament summary[edit]
This is the first Japanese supermajor of the UltRank 2026 season. Alongside featuring numerous top Japanese talent, the event also featured international invader Ouch!?. Notable among the players missing from the event was Miya, who was instead at a game festival taking place at Ichihara Children's Future Museum that same weekend.[1]
This event is best known for #12 seed Nyonoknb and #62 seed Tsubaki's performances, which were considered their best up to that point. After having won his last two events without dropping a set, Nyonoknb prove that his victories were not a fluke by entering top 8 on the Winners side dropping a total of 4 games, 2 against both MeiKi and Raru. This run also included wins over Kurofune and Kaninabe prior to top 8, a win over Snow in top 8, and going up 2-0 against Doramigi, though Nyonoknb was eventually reverse-sweeped. Tsubaki entered this tournament on a slump, having underperformed at many of his previous majors, with his last major top 8 being at UltCore Second on January 27th, 2024, and was sent to Losers relatively early by Hurt 2-3 at the start of Top 192. However, Tsubaki went on a 9-set Losers run, gathering a total upset factor of 39 along the way: his upsets include an upset factor 9 during his runback against Hurt 3-1, an upset factor 8 after defeating Raru 3-0, and two upset factor 6s after defeating Ouch!? 3-0 and KEN 3-2. Tsubaki's run was ultimately ended by Nyonoknb in Losers Semi-Finals, ending his run at 4th.
Another notable event was acola's character choice for top 8. As he only fought against Hurt and Doramigi in this bracket, two players known for being strong against his Steve, acola opted to use Mr. Game & Watch for the entirety of top 8, a choice that ultimately prove successful. He first won his runback against Hurt 3-1, defeating Hurt's Sonic in the final two games, before winning a game-5, last-hit scenario against Doramigi to enter Grand Finals on the Winners side. Doramigi returned to face acola after defeating Nyonoknb 3-1, and won the first set of Grand Finals 3-1; however, acola held on and won the reset 3-0 to win the entire tournament, winning the final game without dropping a stock. Due to this character choice, acola became the only Mr. Game & Watch player that was not Miya to win an undisputed major/supermajor. In addition, Maesuma'TOP 2 became the second supermajor in a row where Steve was not used at all in the top 8, after Let's Make BIG Moves 2026 the previous week.
As the highest placing individual who was not already registered for the event and was available, Nyonoknb received a paid trip to attend LVL UP EXPO 2026.
