Duck Hunt (ダックハント, Duckhunt), known in PAL regions as Duck Hunt Duo, are playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They were confirmed as playable characters on June 12, 2018.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

• As with all veterans returning from SSB4, Duck Hunt's models feature more subdued color schemes. Unlike most other characters who have received more simple detailing, the dog and duck feature fur and feather detailing, respectively.

Attributes

• Like all characters, Duck Hunt’s jumpsquat animation now takes three frames to complete.

Ground Attacks

• Duck Hunt's jab combo seems to be faster.
• Up tilt appears to become active slightly faster.
• All smash attacks appear to have less endlag, improving their safety.
  • All smash attacks appear to connect more reliably, unlike in SSB4 where it was likely the opponent would fall out of the last hit, which had all of the KO power. This improves Duck Hunt's KOing options immensely.

Aerial Attacks

• Neutral aerial has less ending lag.
• Forward aerial has less ending lag.
• Down aerial has less startup and ending lag.

Special Moves

• Trick Shot appears to be slower and floatier, but does start farther forward.
• Trick Shot has more end lag.
• The can in Trick Shot is now able to be hit with an attack midair, allowing Duck Hunt to cover more options.
• Clay Shooting overall has faster startup, throwing out the Clay Pigeon much earlier.
• Duck Jump can now be acted out of, meaning that air dodges are now possible to use after using Duck Hunt's up special.
• Wild Gunman has less ending lag.
• NES Zapper Posse has a larger hitbox.

Role in the World of Light

Duck Hunt was among the fighters that were summoned to fight the army of Master Hands.

Duck Hunt was present when Galeem unleashed its beams of light. The duo was seen panicking alongside Villager and a composed Wii Fit Trainer, with the dog covering its eyes and the duck attempting to lift the dog off the floor with Duck Jump. The duo was transformed into a spirit alongside the rest of the fighters, excluding Kirby.
