The Gimvitational was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major invitational held in Laurel, Maryland, from June 16th-19th, 2022. The tournament was announced following GimR's presentation on the slingshot technique and featured a Summit-esque voting style, where 20% of all donations and shop profits were be added to a "Player Fund," a fund that returned a percentage of money to those who made it into the nomination phase. The tournament also experimented with a mixed hazards on and hazard off stagelist.

VoiD was originally invited, but was unable to attend due to health issues. He was replaced by loaf, who had the highest amount of votes out of the players eliminated on the final day of voting.[1]

- Placed top 32 at Let's Make Big Moves 2022, Glitch - Infinite, LVL UP EXPO 2022, Collision 2022, WANTED S4 C4 - Free Agent Edition, Pound 2022, Low Tide City 2022, Maesuma TOP 7, and Kagaribi 7
- Placed top 16 at Back in Blood 3, Glory 2.0, WANTED S4 C3 - Saint Valentin Edition, LEVELUP Arena 4, CT Gamercon 5, RCADIA SMASH 2, Ultra Hard, Tijuana At War 2022, Invasion: April 2022, Battle Arena Melbourne 12, and Virtuocity Smash Open 2022

Ruleset[edit]
Singles[edit]
- Best of 5 all tournament
- Phase 1 - Research and Development: 4 round robin groups of 4 players, 1st in each group advances to Phase 3 bracket Winners' side, 2nd-4th advance to Phase 2
- Phase 2 - Clinical Trials: Gauntlet stage of 8 sets across 4 groups of 3 players
- Phase 3 - Final Review: Double-elimination bracket stage with 8 players starting Winners’ side and 8 players starting Losers’ side
Singles stage list[edit]
- Winner of the previous game gets 3 bans in counterpick stages
- Banning one stage in a row on the table bans both stages

- 4 teams playing 4v4s in 8-Player Smash
- Team captains picked by viewers: Jin, Gackt, Kola, Light, teams drafted live
- Standard team rules with Final Smash Meter on
- Stage list, all with hazards on: Hyrule Castle, Jungle Japes, Temple, WarioWare, Inc., Mario Bros.
- Sudden Death is played out
- Game 1's stage is selected at random, losing team of the previous game counterpicks stages
- No bans, no stage can be repeated in the same set
- Each team gets two character bans, all characters on screen must be unique, players take turns choosing characters

- Cosmos, Light, Marss, Tweek, and Larry Lurr participated in both The Gimvitational and Smash 4 Boot Camp in December 2017, which were both 16-player invitationals held by VGBootCamp.

- This marked the first offline singles tournament since SWT: Central America Ultimate Regional Finals where Sparg0 did not place in the top three, instead placing 7th.
