Kagaribi 10 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor tournament held in Tokyo, Japan, from May 6th-7th, 2023, as the last and largest of three Ultimate supermajor events of the 2023 Golden Week (proceeding Maesuma TOP 12 and DELTA 4) and one of the largest Japanese supermajor events for Ultimate in terms of top-player talent. Mid-set coaching was allowed, with a limit of 30 seconds between games.[1]
Tournament summary[edit]
The first day saw many upsets over top players, including Metara over Miya (upset factor 12), TamaPDaifuku over Tea (upset factor 8), and Levi over MuteAce (upset factor 7). The former two ultimately made long Loser runs, with Miya defeating 9 players to place 7th - albeit his first time missing top 2 at a tournament since the previous Kagaribi - and Tea defeating 6 players to place 17th. The second day also saw Yaura upsetting Sparg0 (upset factor 8). However, Sparg0 proceeded to win 11 sets in a row to take the tournament, becoming the first player from North America to win a major Japanese Ultimate event, while doing so at his first ever Japanese event, with Sparg0's wins being Yamanaction 3-0, YOC 3-0, Ike 3-1, Asimo 3-1, KEN 3-2, Miya 3-1, Yoshidora 3-1, Dabuz 3-0, Zackray 3-0 and acola 6-1, with Sparg0's run being considered one of the greatest losers runs in Ultimate alongside MkLeo's Frostbite 2020 and EVO 2019 runs. In addition, after being knocked into Losers by Taikei, Dabuz defeated 9 players to place 4th, his first top 8 at a major/supermajor since Super Smash Con 2022. Together, Sparg0 and Dabuz eliminated everyone in the top 8. On the other hand, this was the first Kagaribi that acola attended but did not win.
