The Golden Hammer (ゴルデンハンマー, goruden hanmā) is an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It acts similarly to a regular Hammer, but improved in every way. It is more powerful, is swung faster, and can even let the user float in midair if the user taps A repeatedly. While the Hammer gives vertical knockback, the Golden Hammer gives more horizontal knockback. However, it is exceptionally rare. A platform under it spawns first, and then it will spawn the Golden Hammer with a very distinct sound effect. Also, like the Hammer's Headless Hammer, the Golden Hammer can become the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

The item originated in the game Wrecking Crew.

Origin

The Golden Hammer comes from Wrecking Crew. In Wrecking Crew, the Golden Hammer is a temporary item that the player can acquire. The Golden Hammer allows the player to swing faster than the regular hammer and the Golden Hammer is also much stronger than the regular hammer. When a Golden Hammer appears, a short tune is heard. When the player grabs the hammer, the "Power-Up Music" is played. The Golden Hammer is a rare item that is hard to obtain for certain levels. In Brawl, the Golden Hammer is a rare, but very powerful item. Also, when the hammer appears, the same tune can be heard. When a player picks up the hammer, the same "Power-Up Music" is heard. The Golden Squeaky Hammer, however, never appeared in Wrecking Crew.

Golden Squeaky Hammer

Wario remains completely unaffected by the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

The Golden Squeaky Hammer is an item in SSBB. Although indistinguishable from a normal Golden Hammer, it is completely useless in terms of attacking; instead of the usual heavy damage and knockback, it simply squeaks when it strikes a foe, causing no ill effect. This is the Golden Hammer's parallel to the normal Hammer's Headless Hammer. The Golden Squeaky Hammer does however grant the floating abilities of the normal Golden Hammer. Also, when characters are hit by a Golden Hammer within the brief period of invincibility after being respawned, the Golden Hammer will most likely become squeaky. Oddly enough characters with counters like Marth can still counter the attack despite the squeaky hammer not doing any damage. The Golden Squeaky Hammer is in fact safer than the Headless Hammer since opponents cannot use the hammer against the user.

Challenges

Unlocking certain challenges will give players access to a limited supply of Golden Hammers to break some of the Challenge boxes. There are five in all to collect. Although some of the challenges can be opened with a Golden Hammer, the Golden Hammer will sometimes be rejected, particularly on some of the more difficult challenges. Any of the Boss Battle challenges cannot be opened with a Golden Hammer, except in the PAL version.

Trophy Description

Golden Hammer Trophy

The Golden Hammer Trophy is obtained by hitting 45,000 ft. (15,000m PAL) combined distance with all fighter's Home-Run Contest records.

A hammer that glows with golden light. It's easier to swing than a normal hammer, and more powerful too. If you tilt the Control Stick and press the attack button repeatedly, you float in midair. It's a very powerful item, but one that rarely appears. There's also a Golden Squeaky Hammer that does absolutely no damage at all. It's what you would call a fake.

  • If more than one character has a Golden Hammer and they gang up on another character, the large hitlag makes it possible to trap the character in multiple hits before being sent flying.
  • The Golden Hammer appears sometimes when Tingle comes out of the Assist Trophy, as Tingle makes multiple Hammers, and a few Golden Hammers appear on the stage.
