There is no specific order the player must beat all the enemies – the player can also choose to play as any character that has been rescued in the preceding stages. Also, there are various Save Points throughout the maze. The checkpoints are indicated by the the Smash Bros. emblem mounted on a trophy stand and look like a forest clearing; but there is a Subspace rip in the fabric of the sky of these checkpoints. After the player has defeated all the "dark" characters and all the bosses again, the player will then open a large purple door which leads the player to [[Tabuu's Residence]] and the final battle begins. After the player beats Tabuu, the Great Maze is spread apart and all the levels and locations of the World of Trophies are returned to their normal state.
 
A map of the Great Maze can be accessed any time by pressing the Start button. On the map, the spots blinking in pink or yellow are the save points. There are four pink spots and five yellow ones. They’re all crucial, since they’ll serve as your bases of operation. The warp zones on both sides will allow the player to warp to other save points. They connect to pink save points in the upper right, lower right, upper left, and lower left of the map. If the player goes everywhere at least once, the positions of all unbeaten foes will appear in the map. The area where the player is now, or any area you haven’t found, will not be displayed. Each one of the foes serves as a key to the final gate located in the middle of the map. Inside, the final boss [[Tabuu]] is there.
