Petey Piranha (ボスパックン, Boss Packun) is Piranha Plant's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Overview

When this Final Smash is used, Piranha Plant summons Petey Piranha, who moves with it. The player has free control of Piranha Plant after Petey is summoned, during which Petey will mimic the player's actions, such as moving left or right and jumping. This allows the player to control where he goes to some degree, but a moment after Petey captures at least one fighter, he will then enter his attack phase and player control will be forfeited. He acts in a similar manner to his appearance in the Subspace Emissary, jumping around and capturing opponents in the cages he holds. Before releasing the opponent, he will breathe fire on both cages and slam them downward, sending the opponent flying. Petey Piranha will fall off of ledges, though players caught in cages can escape before they hits the blast zone.

Origin

Petey Piranha first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine and has appeared - usually as a boss - in various Mario titles since. His cages are based on his appearance as a boss in Brawl's Subspace Emissary, where he captured Peach and Zelda in said cages and flung them around, similar to how he flings the cages down during the Final Smash. Though he never has breathed fire in the past, he has exhaled and spit out poisonous toxins within the Mario series, notably in Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Hoops 3-on-3, and many sub-species of Piranha Plants are capable of doing so.
