Sonic (ソニック, Sonic) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He was confirmed as a playable character on June 12th, 2018.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Aesthetics

  •   Like most of the cast, Sonic is more expressive, as he now grins while dashing and now has an angry look when using up tilt and holding his shield.

Ground Attacks

  •   Neutral attack's third hit has a slightly different animation.
  •   Down tilt launches at a more upward angle, improving its combo potential but worsening its edgeguard potential.
  •   Sonic's previous dash attack, which resembled the Spin Attack from his games, has been changed into a lunge kick.

Aerial Attacks

  •   Neutral aerial deals more damage: 12% → 15%.
  •   It is harder to land both hits with Sonic's Up aerial.
  •   Back aerial deals more damage: 14% → 16%.

Throws/other attacks

  •   Forward throw now sends opponents at a more horizontal angle.
  •   Sonic's up throw and forward throw have less knockback.
  •   Down throw deals more damage: 7% → 10%.

Special Moves

  •   Homing Attack now shows a reticle on the opponent right before Sonic is about to strike.
  •   Homing Attack deals more damage when charged: 12% → 15%.
  •   Homing Attack has decreased start-up with the attack button pressed.
  •   Homing Attack has more start-up.
  •   Sonic cannot shield cancel his Spin Dash anymore. It also now stops upon hitting an opponent's shield.
