Changelog[edit]

UK top Sonic main Peli got the chance to play Smash Ultimate for two days using primarily Sonic, and reported a myriad of nerfs, which should be implemented into the article [1] Toast Wii U Logo Transparent.pngltimatumTransparent Swadloon.png 09:46, 30 July 2018 (EDT)

Sonic's meteor smash[edit]

What I mean to say is Sonic's meteor smash in Smash 4 is frame 19 while its earliest hit (which hits upward) is at frame 17. Sonic's meteor in Ultimate looks like it could be it's earliest hitting frame, what ever it may be. Smash Master 14:38, 11 September 2018 (EDT)

Knockback[edit]

@Trainer Alex (or anybody, Idc who), have you tried testing it yourself? Knockback isn't effected by the 1.2x damage multiplier in training mode just test it for yourself, and Sonic's up smash too... Smash Master 13:36, 29 December 2018 (EST)

So no one wants to explain how knockback may be different from Smash 4? Cuz I'm still confused... Smash Master 14:56, 29 December 2018 (EST)
But the higher final damage does. Also there are other systematic errors that can occur (for instance we still don't know the gravity stat changes, and this is an important factor too).. In the case of Nair it's very easy to demonstrate the knockback being unaltered as the tumble percent is the same. Alex the Jigglypuff trainer 14:59, 29 December 2018 (EST)
Oh, ok. Smash Master 15:08, 29 December 2018 (EST)

Dash Attack[edit]

Is his Dash atttack a reference to his move in Sonic the Fighters where he runs and gives a kick? The Dash Kick or something?

Aesthetic changes[edit]

Has a new back roll dodge animation 8.40.199.25 16:25, May 13, 2020 (EDT)

I’ll have to check this myself, but if you’ve already confirmed it, there’s no reason why you couldn’t have added this yourself - the page is not protected. Black Vulpine of the Furry Nation. Furries make the internets go! :3 17:07, May 13, 2020 (EDT)

Sonic Victory poses[edit]

For reference, I am using the static camera angles from Brawl. Sonic's left victory pose at the end is a reference to artwork from Sonic Advance (also used in the boxarts and select screen) and used later as a victory pose in Sonic Advance 2, noting that he also stops running like in Smash (in sprite sheet, the 6th row from the bottom).

His right victory pose at the end also might be a reference to Sonic Adventure victory pose (I say "also" as the wiki says the quote is from Sonic Adventure). DoctaShield (talk) 22:41, October 19, 2023 (EDT)

I can buy these. I will note, the Advance 2 connection seems a bit off, and it's really only the ending pose of the right victory pose that matches Adventure, but everything else seems solid enough to me. Aidan the Spooky Gamer 01:44, October 20, 2023 (EDT)
Yep, I am mostly talking about their poses and not the animations as I do agree the wiki article. So the left pose must be taken from the first Advance game but found interesting they actually used it as a victory pose / course clear animation in Advance 2 in which well, he stops running before striking the pose, and that's more or less what he does in the Smash victory pose (I still think the first part running is a nod to the SEGA logo intro in Sonic 2). Sonic's Up Smash[edit]

Is there a reason behind the section of his up smash that talks about it having "merely average base knockback"? Everything I can tell seems to point towards that not being the case. 80 base knockback seems anomalously high, even scouting around the smash attacks of other characters, and even strong ones, this seems just incorrect. The high knockback scaling is held back a bit by the last hit's damage being so low, but the base knockback is just added at the end, and rage privileges this move WAY more than other, similar strength up smashes. With an admittedly not fully scientific FD test, Sonic's up smash with no rage kills mario on FD at 113%, but at max rage it only takes 84%, a whopping 29% earlier. Similar strength attacks, such as Mario and Luigi's Up smash, kill at 121/105 and 107/92 without and with full rage respectively. This seems to me like the base knockback is the exceptional part, not the scaling. Just wanted to bring this up here to see if I missed anything before rewriting that.
