Template:Infobox Final Smash The Mario Finale (マリオファイナル, Mario Final) is Mario's Final Smash attack. It consists of Mario launching a powerful two-streamed blast of fire, which hits many times. It expands vertically as it moves away from Mario. As the blast moves away from him, opponents that come in contact with the vortex are knocked slightly to the side, and are thus forced to travel with it. Opponents that are in the center of the vortex are more easily trapped by it. The Dojo!! suggests to move to one side of the level and use it while in mid-air. Mario recoils slightly when he does the attack, but he is unaffected by gravity until the move ends, so it is mostly insignificant.

Each time a fireball hits an opponent, it does 3% or 2% damage, depending on whether it was the larger fireball or the smaller one. The move is capable of hitting about 7.5 times a second, although this is unlikely due to the speed the fireballs spin at and the knockback delivered. Despite being a powerful Final Smash, it has one major flaw: if the opponents are far away from Mario, they can avoid the attack by jumping over it (especially high jumpers such as Fox or Yoshi). However, it makes up for it by inflicting damage on a wide range of multiple enemies and pushing them back quite some distance without allowing recovery, possibly even dragging opponents off the side.

The maximum distance of the Mario Finale reaches approximately from the edge of Final Destination to the a spot right before the blast line. Since opponents are dragged along the length of the attack, it is best to not initiate from the end of a stage.

In Super Smash Bros. 4, the move appears to have gained a new graphical effect with more "accentuated" fire.

Origin

The Ultra Flame move from Mario RPG

Mario Finale resembles Mario's attack "Ultra Flame" from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The attack involves Mario shooting a barrage of powerful fireballs that damage all the enemies on the screen. The move otherwise does not have a clear origin beyond being a culmination of Mario's famous pyrokinesis abilities.

Brawl Manual description

"Launch a great fiery blast. The blast spreads outward vertically as it travels, so maximize damage by taking a small hop before letting loose."

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS foldout description

"Unleash a giant fireball that spreads vertically."

Brawl Trophy Description

Mario with a Smash Ball, unleashing his ultimate attack. The twin dragons of flame he releases wallop all characters in range. The flames spread up and down, so it's best to release them from the edge of the screen at an appropriate height. His flaming eyes are proof of his excitement for this explosive attack.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Trophy Description

Break the Smash Ball and unleash Mario's Final Smash. Mario will fire a devastating blast of fire in the direction he's facing. The attack covers a wide range and travels far, so it's best to fire this from one side of the stage to the other. The damage is impressive, and it can actually carry foes right off the screen!

Trivia

  • Characters that are slightly behind Mario can be pulled in front of him and become trapped in his Final Smash (this, however, was lessened in Smash 4).
  • Platforms hit by the attack will have a small fire graphic on them for a short while afterwards; however, this fire is purely for visual effect and causes no damage.
  • A small amount of damage and knockback is inflicted if Mario is close enough to his foe just before the vortex comes out, enabling them to be vulnerable to the whole attack.
