GENESIS X3 was a Smash event held in San Jose, California from February 13th-16th, 2026. It featured Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in its main lineup, as well as Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Brawl singles as side events.

Tournament summary

Super Smash Bros.

Despite boasting an lower entree count than previous Smash 64 events at GENESIS, this year's iteration was considerably more stacked than previous iterations in the 2020s. Not only did it include a decent amount of top 50 players in the modern era, it would also be Isai's first appearance at the event since GENESIS 4 nine years prior. kysk would attend the event as well, marking his return to the series since GENESIS 6, alongside other Japanese talent such as Massun and Falpan.

The most notable aspect of the tournament was Josh Brody's performance. Josh Brody double-eliminated kysk in their Winners Semi-Finals and Loser Finals matches, with Josh Brody notably defeating kysk's Pikachu, Kirby, and Captain Falcon in the former set. Additionally, this would be the first GENESIS since GENESIS 6 where YJ would be in attendance but not win the tournament, previously winning GENESIS 7, GENESIS 8, and GENESIS X. In terms of Isai's performance, he decided to solely play Link for the entire tournament and won without losing a single set. This would not only mark Isai's first ever GENESIS win, but also mark the biggest victory seen with Link at a North American Smash 64 tournament.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

GENESIS X3 is the first GENESIS tournament since GENESIS 2 where the Melee singles event failed to reach four-digits, with it ultimately falling short by roughly 20 entrants. However, the event remains a supermajor, as all of the SSBMRank 2025's top 10, aside from lloD, were in attendance. Alongside this was a significantly larger number of international players than usual for the GENESIS series, including a large number of players from both Japan and Australia, two of Melee's most underrepresented regions at ranked events. Thus, this was the first supermajor — and by extension major — of the SSBMRank 2026 season. The PewFat team of PewPewU and SFAT entered as their first Melee doubles event for the first time in nearly 3 years since The NorCal Classic 2 in March 2023, and the first time at a major in 6 years since GENESIS 7 pre-quarantine in January 2020.

The most anticipated set at the tournament was between Zain, the best player in the world, and RapMonster, a rising star from the previous year. Both players have been in a feud since the beginning of the year, with Zain attending Bair Necessities to face RapMonster in bracket, and though RapMonster did not make it to Zain at that event, he defeated Zain is a showmatch at the end of the event. They finally met in bracket proper at this event, where RapMonster won the set in a rather dominant 3-1, for an upset factor of 8. A particularly infamous moment took place in the first game, where RapMonster finished a combo with a misfire, leading him to pop-off mid-set. With Cody Schwab being upset by Swift (upset factor 8) and Hungrybox being upset by Soonsay (upset factor 4), not only were all three of the SSBMRank 2025's top 3 sent into Losers before top 8, but as they were in the same bracket path, only one of them could make it into Top 8. That player ended up being Cody Schwab, who eliminated Zain 3-2 for 17th, the first time Zain had placed double-digits at an event without sandbagging since GENESIS 5 in January 2018, and Hungrybox 3-0 for 9th; Hungrybox therefore was unable to defend his title from the previous event. Conversely, despite his victory over Zain, RapMonster was unable to make top 8, due to having to face two Captain Falcon players, Wizzrobe and Salt, in order to do so. This Top 8 was notable for being the first GENESIS with none of the Five Gods in Top 8, and the first major with Hungrybox entering but no gods in Top 8 (after it similarly happened with Mang0 at Nounsvitational 2024).

Alongside RapMonster's run were respectable performances from numerous mid-tier players, many of them either outplacing their seeds or making surprise upsets. Axe and Swift both placed 17th with Pikachu, while Daniel placed 25th with Yoshi. Despite not making it into the bracket phase, IuDKing also made an upset over OG Kid. The most notable mid-tier run outside of RapMonster, however, was Dial M's run: at the age of 14, he defeated Ossify, Gahtzu, Grab, and Daniel to place 17th at his second major of his competitive career.

Despite being knocked into Losers early, Cody Schwab went on another long Losers run, winning game 5 sets against Salt in Losers Semi-Finals, Soonsay in Losers Finals, and Jmook in the Grand Finals Reset to win his second GENESIS title. With Cody Schwab facing Jmook in Grand Finals, this was the first GENESIS where the winning team of Melee doubles faced off in the Grand Finals of Melee singles.

For being the two highest-placing non-invited players at the event, Salt and Soonsay were invited to Full House: Siege.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Despite having less entrants than the previous iteration, GENESIS X3 reached P tier on the UltRank 2026 TTS, in part due to the number of top Japanese players in attendance, including all of Japan's top 10 from the previous year, aside from Carmelo. In addition, this event was the international debut for several Japanese players, most notably Nyonoknb, a player who had several strong performances at his last few superregional and major events.

After a shaky start to the 2026 season, #8 seed Zomba would rebound. He started top 64 by taking 3-0 victories over crêpe salée and MuteAce before losing a close game 5 set against #1 seed Doramigi. However, Zomba would go on a rampage through Losers bracket, first by eliminating Raki 3-0 to make it to Top 8. He then proceeded to eliminate Miya 3-1 (Upset Factor 4), Monte 3-0, acola 3-2 (his first victory against him since Ludwig Smash Invitational) (UF 3) and Doramigi in the runback 3-2 (UF 5) in a fiery set to make it to Grand Finals. With his run, Zomba eliminated Japan's Top 3 players in one fell swoop and is the first time in Ultimate history a single player has eliminated the top 3 ranked players in a single event. Finally, with Doramigi eliminated, this was the first Premier tournament since Supernova 2024 and the first open bracket major of the 2026 season with no Japanese players in Grand Finals, as well as the first ranked event since Kagaribi 13 that Doramigi did not make Grand Finals, ending his streak of five top 2 finishes at majors in a row.

Coming off of a 3rd place at Let's Make BIG Moves 2026 and a win at the stacked invitational Vars Ultimate Summit 1, #6 seed Sonix made it to top 8 through Winners. He defeated Snow and Light 3-0 and Tweek 3-1, all of whom were opponents he had struggled against in the past. In top 8, Sonix dispatched both Monte and Doramigi (in their first ever in-bracket encounter) 3-0 (UF 4) to make winner's side Grand Finals. Sonix would meet Zomba in Grand Finals again much like GENESIS X and Port Priority 9, the latter of which took place only three months prior. Sonix would drop two games to Zomba but then perform a reverse 3-0 and to take the tournament after dropping only three games the entire event, his victory at this event therefore making him an early contender for the throne for the 2026 season.

This tournament saw #26 seed Monte go on a phenomenal run. Coming off of a 7th place at Let's Make Big Moves 2026, Monte would make several upsets to make Top 8 through Winners side, the first time he had ever done so at a supermajor. After reverse 3-0ing zackray, Monte would defeat #7 seed Raru 3-0 (UF 4), #10 seed Lui$ 3-2 (UF 3), and finally #18 seed Shuton (after he had upset #2 seed Miya for an UF of 7) on his path to Top 8. Monte would then place 5th after being cleanly swept by Sonix and Zomba, giving him his best placement at a supermajor, and the third time he outplaced Miya.

The tournament was littered with upsets, with the most notable being #69 seed Castle's 3-2 victory over #5 seed Sparg0 (UF 8), the third major in a row where Sparg0 was upset early. Sparg0 would ultimately be eliminated by MkLeo for 25th place, after Sparg0 SD'd in the last game at low percent. In a similar fashion to Kagaribi 13 where after eliminating Sparg0, MkLeo lost his next round to a player he had been undefeated against; that being Lui$.

The second largest upset (tied with #18 seed Shuton's upset over Miya) came from #30 seed Raki, where he managed to reverse sweep #3 seed acola in the Steve ditto (UF 7), marking the second time acola both lost and got reverse swept in the mirror. For the third major of the season in a row, #2 seed Miya would underperform his seed, where he would place 7th after losing to Zomba 3-1.

While Nyonoknb would match his seed with a respectable 17th place (losing to Glutonny and Raki), other Japanese players were not so fortunate. At his first supermajor overseas, #31 seed Shion would place 65th, where after losing the Hero ditto to #34 seed BeastModePaul 3-2, he would then get upset by #66 seed Yeast (UF 3). #19 seed TamaPDaifuku would place 33rd being double eliminated by Diddy Kong players: first losing to #14 seed Tweek's Diddy Kong 3-1, and then being 3-0'd by #50 seed FD's Diddy Kong secondary (UF 3). Finally, the aforementioned zackray would then lose to Chase for 49th.
