GENESIS 7 was a supermajor tournament and the 7th edition of the GENESIS tournament series. It took place in Oakland, California, from January 24th-26th, 2020. The event featured singles and doubles tournaments for Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and featured a major event for Rivals of Aether and Splatoon 2. GENESIS 7 also featured side events for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Magical Drop III, Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, Windjammers, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

Trivia

• This tournament marks Zain's first ever supermajor tournament win.
• Both Axe and Plup performed uncharacteristically low in Melee singles, placing 33rd and 25th respectively. This was also their lowest placings (excluding sandbagging) since The Big House 6 in 2016, where Axe placed 65th, and HTC Throwdown in 2015, where Plup also placed 25th.
  • These two additionally met in the loser's bracket, where Plup eliminated Axe 3-1.
• During his losers match against Fiction, n0ne used "KOBE" as his in-game tag to honor NBA legend Kobe Bryant who, along with his daughter Gigi, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas a few hours before Melee's Top 8.
  • Mango also honored him during his losers final set with Hungrybox by making his tag "8", the same number he had on his jersey while playing for the Lakers.
• Mango threw his 3rd place medal into the crowd during the awards ceremony.
• PPMD was in attendance at this tournament, marking the first time he went to an event since Bad Moon Rising 2 in 2017. He additionally commentated a segment of the Melee Singles bracket.
• This was the first Genesis event that Armada did not attend, as he was unable to locate his passport before the event began.
• This tournament marks the lowest placements of Pandarian, Ogey, and NAKAT, at 65th, 97th, and 129th respectively.
• Marss's win in Ultimate singles ends MkLeo's three year winning streak at the event.
  • Marss became the third person in Ultimate to 3-0 Leo at a PGR event, with the first being Tweek at Frostbite 2019 and the second being Glutonny at Ultimate Fighting Arena 2019 Grand Final set 1 when Leo used Marth. He is the first to 3-0 Leo's Joker at a PGR event.
  • This is Marss's first ever supermajor win; he became the 8th player to win an S-tier in Ultimate.
