Spud is a Marth player from New Zealand who is currently living in Perth, Australia. He was considered the best player from Australia in his prime as well as the greatest Smash player to come from New Zealand. He began competing in 2014 and was first known for finishing 7th at Battle Arena Melbourne 7, where he upset Alex19 along the way. He eventually traveled to the United States to compete, eventually having a breakout performance by winning the Pacific Northwest event Bridgetown Hyper Blitz and defeating n0ne, moky, and Professor Pro twice. Outside of that win, he is also known for finishing 5th at Don't Park on the Grass 2018 defeating Kalamazhu, SFAT, and Hax. Due to these performances, he became the first Australian and New Zealander to rank on a global Melee ranking, eventually peaking at 38th on the MPGR 2018. He remained active in the early years of the post-Slippi era before eventually going inactive at the end of 2022.
On April 13th, 2017, Spud was signed by Dark Sided. On January 16th, 2021, Dark Sided announced that they had ceased operations.[1]
