Vars Ultimate Summit 1 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational held in Fort Lee, New Jersey on January 22nd, 2026. The event was organized by YouTuber Vars and took place on the same week as Let's Make BIG Moves 2026. The event featured a Swiss format for pools and transitioned into Double Elimination for top 16. 40 players were initially invited, though 2 players dropped out the day of the event. Due to several complications and issues that arose during the pools phase, UltRank chose to consider this event in a similar vein to a Steve player at Steve-banned event, in that the results of the event can only help a player's rank.[1]
The victor of the event, Sonix, received a free trip to Kagaribi 15.
Tournament Summary[edit]
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
In an attempt to restart the Smash Ultimate Summit series which hadn't been held since 2023, Youtuber Vars invited 40 players to play seven rounds of swiss. The tournament furthermore included players from many different countries, including Germany, Japan, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, Indonesia, and the Dominican Republic.
In swiss, top 50 players Sparg0, Monte, and Neo, were unable to make it out of swiss and into the top 16 bracket. BassMage had a great run in Swiss, upsetting Hurt for upset factor 10, as did Lui$, keeping up momentum from Afterburner. In playoffs, #6 seed MkLeo would eliminate #7 seed Asimo before being eliminated by #27 seed Jakal. The other top 8 seeds all made it into top 8.
Tristate hidden boss Quidd would make top 8, upsetting Jahzz0 along the way, before bowing out to Peabnut. Lui$ would upset #4 seed Zomba to make Winners Finals, and in losers Zomba dropped out because of sickness, sending Hurt on to loser's semis.
After losing to Sonix in winner's finals, Lui$ would beat Hurt for the second time this tournament to make his second grand finals in a row. Despite his best effort and a Dark Pit counterpick, Sonix would defeat Lui$ 3-1 to win his second major in a row, definitively casting off the 2nd place curse. Lui$'s string of amazing performances drew up excitement for how he would perform at the supermajor Let's Make Big Moves 2026 the next day, and cast the question of if Lui$ could be a top 10 player for the year.
