'''Piplup''' ({{ja|ポッチャマ|Potchama}}, ''Pochama'') is a creature in the {{uv|Pokémon}} media franchise.

'''Piplup''' (ポッチャマ, ''Potchama'', '''Pochama''') is a fictional creature in the [[Pokémon (universe)|Pokémon]] media franchise.
==Origin==
{{pkmn|Piplup}} is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in {{iw|bulbapedia|Generation IV}}, and along with {{pkmn|Chimchar}} and {{pkmn|Turtwig}} it is one of the {{iw|bulbapedia|starter Pokémon}} of the {{iw|bulbapedia|Sinnoh}} region, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #393 as the "Penguin Pokémon". It evolves into {{pkmn|Prinplup}} at level 16, which evolves into {{pkmn|Empoleon}} at level 36.

==Creature description==
{{iw|bulbapedia|Surf|move}} is a special Water-type move with 90 (95 before {{iw|bulbapedia|Generation VI}}) base power and 100% accuracy which hits every Pokémon adjacent to the user, including allies. It was {{iw|bulbapedia|HM03}} in every game prior to {{iw|bulbapedia|Generation VII}}, and it was always required to fully complete them. Like most other Water-type Pokémon, Piplup can learn it with HM03.
Piplup is a small blue penguin. According to the Pokédex, it lives along shores in northern countries. Its thick down guards it from the cold in such climates. Though it is poor at walking, often falling down, it is a skilled swimmer that is able to dive for over 10 minutes at a time to hunt. It is naturally proud and prideful, which makes it puff up its chest without a care even while trying to walk, and as such it hates accepting food from people even when domesticated.

Piplup is one of the three starter Pokémon that a trainer can receive from Professor Rowan in ''[[Pokémon Diamond & Pearl]]''. Piplup resembles a small blue bipedal penguin. Piplup's second evolution is Prinplup, who eventually evolves into Empoleon. In the anime, Dawn chose Piplup as her starter Pokémon after she rescued it from a group of giant Ariados. Piplup had trouble accepting Dawn as its trainer, but eventually began to trust her. Dawn uses Piplup to fight in both battles and in contests.

Piplup (ポッチャマ, Pochama) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Piplup is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV, and along with Chimchar and Turtwig it is one of the starter Pokémon of the Sinnoh region, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #393 as the "Penguin Pokémon". It evolves into Prinplup at level 16, which evolves into Empoleon at level 36.

Surf is a special Water-type move with 90 (95 before Generation VI) base power and 100% accuracy which hits every Pokémon adjacent to the user, including allies. It was HM03 in every game prior to Generation VII, and it was always required to fully complete them. Like most other Water-type Pokémon, Piplup can learn it with HM03.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Piplup makes an appearance in Brawl as a Poké Ball Pokémon, where it uses its Surf attack to glide across the stage until it reaches a blast line or exceeds a time limit. Any character that gets caught in Piplup's surf will get washed away with it and will likely get KO'd while trapped, along with Piplup. The simpler the stage's terrain is, the more effective Piplup's Surf will be. Piplup can also be reflected. Its attack is essentially used the same way as Marill's attack from Melee. Sometimes Piplup will instantly use Surf.
