Article on Bulbapedia Articuno (Pokémon)

Articuno (フリーザー, Freezer) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Articuno is an Ice/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation I, and is categorized within the Pokédex at #144 as the "Freeze Pokémon". Along with Zapdos and Moltres, Articuno is part of a trio commonly referred to as the legendary birds. Along with the other legendary birds, Articuno received a Psychic/Flying-type Galarian form in Generation VIII.

Icy Wind is an Ice-type special move with 55 base power and 95% accuracy, which affects all adjacent foes and reduces by one stage the Speed of every target. Unlike its Smash appearance, it cannot inflict the frozen status on foes. Articuno does not learn it naturally, but can learn it by TM16 in Generation II and by Move Tutor in several later games.

As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Articuno is a legendary Pokémon that can be summoned via a Poké Ball in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Articuno's appearance is rare due to its status as a legendary Pokémon, and general high power. Its chance of appearing out of a Poké Ball is highly increased in the event match Legendary Pokémon. Articuno uses Icy Wind as its attack, where it will unleash a blast of frost from its body. Any character in Icy Wind's attack radius will take 25% damage and be frozen for a few seconds, much like being affected by a Freezie. Characters that are affected by Articuno's Icy Wind will also be sent towards the top of the screen with very high knockback, with most characters (except for fast fallers and most heavyweights) being OHKO'd on Final Destination. Articuno's attack cannot harm the summoner.

Clouds gather, the barometer plunges, and fresh snow falls from the frigid air when this legendary Pokémon takes wing. Graceful and elegant, it boasts long tail feathers that flap in the wind and are lovely to behold. As would be expected, its combat moves are based on its cold nature; they include Ice Beam and Blizzard.

Trophy[edit]

Articuno only appears as a trophy exclusive to the 3DS version.

NTSC The air around Articuno is always cool, and it can make snow fall on even the hottest of days. It must be the perfect Pokémon to have around in summer! Then again, do you really want to be the one to use a Legendary bird Pokémon as an ice machine? Let's just think this through for a minute.

Spirit[edit]

Articuno appears alongside Zapdos and Moltres as a Legend-class primary spirit.

Articuno uses a cyan Lucas puppet fighter, and is fought on the Find Mii stage's Battlefield form. He is fought along with the orange and red Lucas puppet fighters representing Zapdos and Moltres respectively. During the battle, the Lucas puppet fighters will reflect projectiles, referencing the Legendary birds' defensive abilities. The cyan Lucas puppet fighter also frequently uses PK Freeze, referencing Articuno's Ice type.
