Article on Donkey Kong Wiki Blast-o-Matic

The Blast-O-Matic is King K. Rool's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Overview

When activated, K. Rool will lunge forward, and any player or opponent that is caught in the trajectory will be harmed by the Final Smash's attack. If successful, a cutscene appears where K. Rool is sitting on his throne in Crocodile Isle, where he presses a button twice. The Blast-O-Matic itself then fires on Donkey Kong Island, which easily cuts through the stone facade of Donkey Kong, destroying it and dealing massive damage to anyone that was on the island at the time.

Origin

The Blast-o-Matic about to destroy Kong Isle in the Game Over sequence of Donkey Kong 64.

In Donkey Kong 64, due to his numerous defeats against Donkey Kong, King K. Rool sought revenge by destroying Donkey Kong Island (Kong Isle in Donkey Kong 64). Originally, he order the gargantuan Kremling K. Lumsy to smash Kong Isle; however, after refusing to do so, K. Rool locked him up inside of a cage attached to his mobile naval fortress, Crocodile Isle. Afterward, he had Snide, his chief technician, develop the Blast-o-Matic, a high power laser canon capable of destroying Kong Isle. K. Rool later incorporated the Blast-o-Matic into Crocodile Isle and set course to Kong Isle; however, a disagreement between the two Kritters in charge of Crocodile Isle's steering wheel causes the naval fortress to crash into a rock, damaging the Blast-o-Matic. When Crocodile Isle arrives at Kong Isle, K. Roole orders his minions to capture Donkey Kong's friends and to steal his Banana Hoard in order to give his Kremlings time to fix the Blast-o-Matic before Donkey Kong can stop him. During the Game Over sequence of Donkey Kong 64, with the Blast-o-Matic fully repaired, K. Rool readies the laser canon to fire on Kong Isle; however, the destruction of the isle was only implied.

This Final Smash is based on the implied destruction of Kong Isle during the Game Over sequence of Donkey Kong 64 with minor differences, such as Crocodile Isle being set on a natural island rather than being a naval fortress, and Donkey Kong Island more closely resembling its appearance from Donkey Kong Country.

Trivia

  • The design of Donkey Kong Island in the Final Smash more closely resembles the layout of the island in the original Donkey Kong Country, although Donkey Kong's house is where the Vine Valley area would be on the map. Also, while Crocodile Isle resembles the design used in Donkey Kong 64 (complete with entrance to the Frantic Factory world), it is depicted as a fortress on an island rather than a mobile platform.
