When this Final Smash is used, Piranha Plant summons Petey Piranha, who moves with it. He acts in a similar manner to his appearance in the Subspace Emissary, jumping around and capturing opponents in the cages he holds. Before releasing the opponent, he will breathe fire on both cages and slam them downward, sending the opponent flying. Petey Piranha will fall off of ledges, though players caught in cages escape before he hits the blast zone.

Petey will move in the same direction Piranha Plant is moving, will jump further the more tilted control stick is, and will jump higher if a jump input is held. Opponents that are hit by a cage will take 5% damage and be placed into a cage if one isn't already occupied (up to two opponents can be trapped inside the cages); once an opponent is trapped within a cage, they can't escape the rest of the attack. If he does a high jump, he will deal 5% damage when landing. After three seconds, he will stop and breathe fire on both cages, dealing 5% to those in the cages and 3% to opponents outside of the cages. He will then slam the cages onto the ground, dealing 20% to those in the cages and those hit by the slam, then fly away. Petey Piranha can fall off of ledges, though players in the cages will be propelled upward before they hit the blast zone.

Petey Piranha (ボスパックン, Boss Packun) is Piranha Plant's Final Smash.

OverviewEdit

Piranha Plant summons Petey Piranha. He jumps around capturing opponents in the cages he holds while the player has free control of Piranha Plant.

Instructional quoteEdit

Move List   Piranha Plant summons a giant Petey Piranha that moves left and right while swinging cages. Fighters hit by a cage will be trapped. In the end, Petey Piranha throws the cages downward, launching the fighters trapped inside.

OriginEdit

Petey Piranha as a boss in Brawl, the basis for his appearance as Piranha Plant's Final Smash.

Petey Piranha first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine and has appeared - usually as a boss, but many times as a playable character - in various Mario titles since. His cages are based on his appearance as a boss in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary, where he captured Peach and Zelda in said cages and flung them around, similarly to how he flings them down during the Final Smash. This is the first time he is shown able to breathe fire, as he usually spits out poisonous toxins and goop in the Mario series, with the fire-breathing ability being possibly derived from the Fire Piranha Plant.

TriviaEdit

  • It is the only Final Smash of a DLC character (in Ultimate) that doesn't require trapping an opponent to succeed.
    • It is also the only Final Smash of a DLC character to have no cinematic parts.
  • If Petey Piranha manages to not land on the ground for eight seconds, he will perform his fire and slam attack and leave regardless of if he is on solid ground or not.[1]
