However, even though he is able to move and jump, he cannot attack. Instead, an attempt to attack causes the game to freeze along with additional undesirable effects. Sandbag is also strange because he cannot be [[KO]]'d. This is because in Home Run Contest, the only stage he is meant to be played on is the Home Run Contest stage, where if he was KO'd, the mini-game would not be playable. Instead, he continues moving in the direction he was sent moving, and can be seen by changing the camera angle. Sandbag's cute appearance and comical role in the series has gained him something of a fanbase.

Sandbag (サンドバッグくん, Sandobaggu-kun) is the character that appears in the Stadium game "Home Run Contest" in both Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In this mode, he stands perfectly still, so the player can hit him. Although he cannot be controlled by a player through normal means, he can if you have an Action Replay. He is simply programmed not to move in Home Run Contest. However, even though he is able to move and jump, he cannot attack. Instead, an attempt to attack causes the game to freeze along with additional undesirable effects. Sandbag is also strange because he cannot be KO'd.

Sandbag's trophy in Melee informs the player that it does not hurt Sandbag if he is attacked, and he actually enjoys watching the players take their best shots at him. Sandbag's trophy can be obtained by hitting 1,500 feet in home-run contest. If you watch the video of Lucas in Home-Run Contest that comes with Brawl, you can get some well-needed pointers if you are having problems getting this.

Sandbag is a character in melee, and can be grabbed; however, in brawl, he is an item thus cannot be grabbed.

Sandbag also appears in Brawl's Wi-Fi Multiplayer while a match loads. A player can practice on him in the Waiting Room while they wait. Sandbag in the waiting room cannot be KOed with the upper blast line, and his knockback direction is very different from his appearance in Home Run Contest.

The Sandbag also appears as an item in Brawl. Sandbag releases other items when attacked, similarly to a Crate or Barrel, although Sandbag will not break when attacked.

The Sandbag features prominently in the CD Factory, a type of stage in Stage Builder that abuses the Sandbag's tendency to drop Stickers and CDs when items are disabled.

Trophy Description

An item that appears in the Home-Run Contest, where the goal is to do lots of damage to Sandbag, then send it flying as far as you can. It also appears in the regular game. If you smash it, a storm of confetti and items will burst out. Sandbag doesn't feel pain, though; in fact, it's happy to be of service.
