Darknuts are common enemies from The Legend of Zelda series. They are generally heavily armoured knights that appear in later, harder dungeons in the games. In more recent titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess they begin with lots of armour and heavy swords and shields. When attacked from the front they will block all damage Link attempts to inflict. The attacks are also one of the most powerful and often knock away 2 or 3 hearts for each hit. They always have a weak spot on their backs.

Darknuts (タートナック, Tartnuc) are enemies from the Legend of Zelda series.

In the 3-D games, you must lock on to the Darknut and, as it swings its sword, evade it with a roll, so that your facing its back. You must then attack its behind whilst it tries to lift up its heavy sword. It's armour begins to shed on each hit which is in indication of its health. As it does, the Darknut becomes more agile and smarter. When all it's heavy armour is disposed of, you can attack its front freely and is easily defeated. However, in Twilight Princess the Darknut, after losing its heavy armour, lobs away its big sword and shield and unsheaths a lighter, thinner one and uses this to attack and block with which my aglity. It must be dispatched of in the same manner as if it had its armour on; from behind.

The 2-D games are fairly similar. In games like The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap they attack by charging foward. Since most of the 2-D games, like the original The Legend of Zelda on the NES, use a grid-like system, the front and sides of the Darnuts sprite are impervious to attack. Instead, you must run or jump behind them at slash at their backs. Unlike the 3-D games, their armour does not fall: they die after a few attacks.
Darknuts are known for their status as minibosses in The Legend of Zelda series. In The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and in later Zelda games, they use advance swordfighting techniques while their heavy armor gives them heightened defense. During their miniboss battle, if the player attacks the Darknut enough times, they will lose their defensive armor, but will become faster and more agile in the process.

Darknuts (タートナック, Tartnuc) are enemies from the Legend of Zelda series.

Origin[edit]

Link fighting a Darknut in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD.

Darknuts made their debut in The Legend of Zelda as a common enemy, and has become a recurring enemy in later Zelda games. They are large knights who wear armor and carry around a large sword and a large shield.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

The Twilight Princess version of the Darknut appears as a collectible trophy, while the Wind Waker version of the Darknut appears as a sticker.

Despite it's major appearances in The Legend of Zelda series, the Darknut trophy only references Twilight Princess.
