Riptide 2026 was a Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event held in Sandusky, Ohio from September 11th-13th, 2026.
Tournament summary[edit]
Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
With their elimination at 3rd, this marked the first doubles event since Supernova 2024 where the Cody Schwab/Jmook team did not win.
With the absence of several top-level Fox players such as Cody Schwab and moky, Joshman opting to play Falco, and Kola falling shy of top 8, this marked the first Melee major since Kings of Cali in 2012 to not have any Fox players in top 8. Conversely, several Falco and Sheik players were present, with 5 Falcos and 4 Sheiks in top 16 respectively.
This tournament included a number of underperformances and upsets; fresh off of his win at Get On My Level 2026, #2 seed lloD would see a surprisingly lackluster performance. He fell to TheRealThing in Top 64, then after a few sets, fell to Ginger in Top 24, bowing out at 17th. This event also saw a notable underperformance from Axe at seed #11, losing to Australia's best player in Goodie, before facing a difficult Loser's bracket, then being eliminated by Magi for 13th. Finally, #5 seed Joshman lost early to Kola and then Wizzrobe to place 9th. Kola himself, perhaps underseeded given his prior performances at GOML 2026 and CEO 2026, was able to make another great run, with wins over OG Kid and n0ne, before being eliminated consecutively by RapMonster and Spark to place 9th.
This event was Melee god Mew2King's first major tournament since the Smash World Tour 2021 Championships. Owing to his inactivity and lesser success at online events, he would not be seeded incredibly high, standing at #25. He would place one set above his seed, eliminating Ben before being taken out by 404Cray for 17th. Additionally, the inactive Free Palestine saw a good performance, placing 9th.
Ultimately, the top 8 was most notable for its Sheik players; Free Palestine was the only Sheik player in top 16 to not make top 8; the rest, Spark, Krudo, and Jmook all made it to top 8. Spark had a grueling Loser's run to top 8 after falling early in bracket to Zuppy, eliminating Drephen, Goodie, 404Cray, and Kola to reach top 8. He proceeded to 3-0 Ossify, before being taken out by Jmook to place 5th, outperforming his seed by 3 sets. Jmook himself was on a hot streak, having double-eliminated Wizzrobe after defeating Spark. However, Krudo would ultimately be the Sheik player to prevail in Grand Finals, with him avenging Wizzrobe with a double-elimination of Jmook. Hungrybox had a much easier time into Grand Finals, only going game 5 against RapMonster in an extremely tight set. Krudo would be the only player to give Hungrybox a run for his money, starting off strong with a 2-0 lead. Nevertheless, Hungrybox would hold his ground, and revere 3-0d Krudo to win the event. With this, Hungrybox surpassed Wizzrobe in major wins in 2026, and tied Zain, re-affirming his status as a top 3 player in 2026.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
With the event featuring 1,024 attendees and being classified as an S+ tier event on the UltRank 2026, Riptide 2026 was one of the largest North American tournaments of the year. However, it notably took place during the same weekend as Ultimate Fighting Arena 2026 in France, which left several top players absent, most notably MkLeo and Asimo.
The event featured several major upsets and breakout runs. Kurama, seeded 30th, made one of the tournament's strongest runs by defeating Hurt (3-0), Mudd (3-1), and Syrup (3-2) en route to a 5th-place finish, falling to Tweek (0-3) and Sonix (2-3) and marking his best supermajor performance since Mainstage 2022. Ikan also made a deep losers' run after an early loss and finished 13th, beating Mild na H.O (3-2) along the way, while Geist scored the tournament's biggest upset by defeating Doramigi (3-1) before finishing 9th. For other upsets, Syrup would notably defeat Sonix 3-1 in Winners, marking the first time Syrup ever defeated Sonix.
Several top players also suffered early eliminations, including Kola, who placed 49th after losses to JeJaJeJa (1-3) and Free Kayflock (1-3), and Light, who finished 25th after losing to Gackt (2-3) and ApolloKage (1-3).
After being upset by Geist, Doramigi went on a long loser's run, which included facing off against several dangerous opponents and match ups. Doramigi narrowly reversed 3-0 Samsora, while eliminating Monte (3-1), Wrath (3-2), Atomic (3-1) and Syrup (3-1) to make Top 8. In Top 8, Doramigi continued his rampage by winning his runbacks on Hurt (3-1), Miya (3-0) and Sonix 3-2. Doramigi would fail to win his runback on Tweek however, placing 3rd. Notably, this marked the first event where Doramigi placed 3rd where he did not reach Winner's Finals.
acola ultimately won the tournament, dropping only two games throughout the event and tying with MkLeo for the the most number of supermajor tournaments won, and maintaining his lead for rank 1. acola would double eliminate Tweek to do so, marking the second supermajor Tweek placed 2nd in a row. While Tweek's run was quiet, Tweek picked up a crucial win on Doramigi, keeping his winning streak on him.
