 Luugi 1v1 MkLeo & MKBigBoss 2v2
|
Ultimate Fighting Arena 2026 was a fighting game tournament held in Aubervilliers, France from September 11th-13th, 2026. It marks the return of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to the tournament lineup, after the game was removed from the 2025 lineup.
Tournament Summary[edit]
After being absent from the 2025 iteration of the series, Ultimate would once again be part of Ultimate Fighting Arena's fighting game lineup, being France's 3rd major of the year after ClashMania 2026 a week prior. MkLeo, MKBigBoss, Chag, and ErickB, who comprised much of the notable international talent at the aforementioned tournament, would all attend UFA alongside Neo, Riddles, Asimo, and most of Europe's top talent.
One of the most notable runs would come from #86 seed Xenesic. This Richter player had previously never placed higher than 49th at a major but after losing to #43 seed Utop-ian in pools, he would go on an 8-set losers run that included wins over SkWiirrel, Mukuro~, ErickB, and Kieron before losing to MKBigBoss for 9th. This would mark not only his best personal placement at a major by far, but also the first single-digit major placement for a Belmont player. This made the Belmonts the final fighters in Ultimate to place in the single digits at a major as well (if treated as one fighter).
Within top 8, MKLeo was the favorite to win the event, being fresh off of a victory at ClashMania the week prior with no sets dropped. He would only drop 1 game to Etish and 2 games to Raflow before entering top 8 on winners side where he would have to fight #4 seed Luugi. Despite Leo's proficiency in the Luigi matchup, as shown by his ClashMania performance in which he defeated Raru twice, Luugi would defeat Leo 3-2 to enter Winners Finals while Leo would drop to Loser's Quarters to fight KID, a player he had previously lost to at Sunrise 2023. KID would once again come out on top with a 3-1 victory and ultimately place 4th at this event, overtaking his 5th place finish at King Con as both his and solo-Mii Brawler's highest placement at a major tournament.
In Winners Finals, Luugi would score a game 5 win over yet another tough opponent in crêpe salée, who had won all but 2 of their 7 previous encounters(with 1 of those 2 losses having both players sandbag with pocket characters). crêpe would secure a runback with him in Grand Finals after a swift 3-0 over Asimo in Losers Finals, but Luugi would once again best him in a game 5 set to win the tournament. This victory would make Luugi the second European player after Glutonny to win an undisputed major in an official post-Melee Smash title and the first British player to do it in any official Smash title.
