The Star Rod (スターロッド, Sutā Roddo) is an item that appears in all three Smash Bros. games. It is known for breaking many of the standard rules about reflecting items in Melee. If it is thrown at Fox/Falco's Reflector, Zelda's Nayru's Love, Mario/Dr. Mario's Cape, or Mewtwo's Confusion, it will not be reflected. It originates from the Kirby series.

  • Fully charged star projectile hits for 6-12% damage.
  • Fully charged rod hits for 13-24% damage.
  • Tapping the attack button hits for 5-10% damage.
  • The rod holds 16-18 shots.
  • The shots can be absorbed by the PSI Magnet.
  • Using the Star Rod as an important throwing item inflicts high horizontal knockback on its target. When, thrown, it is a semi-spike.
  • In Melee and Brawl, Captain Falcon and Sheik can fire multiple stars with a single smash attack. A charged smash with Captain Falcon will fire 1 star with the first swing and then 4 stars in a mass with his second swing (the stars have low knockback, while an uncharged smash fires a normal single star. Sheik's smash involves 2 swings, both of which unleash a star.

Melee Trophy Info

This magic wand holds 16 star shots and sends foes flying at a low angle when thrown. It's most powerful when Captain Falcon or Sheik performs a Smash Attack while holding it. In Kirby's Adventure, the Star Rod is the secret power behind the Fountain of Dreams. King Dedede steals the Star Rod in order to seal away the nasty Cloaked Nightmare.

Brawl Trophy Info

A magic wand. Perform a standard attack with it, and it's a battering weapon. Perform a strong or smash attack, and it fires a barrage of star shots. Throw it at a foe, and that opponent will get sent flying sideways. In the Kirby series, the Star Rod is the power source of the Fountain of Dreams. King Dedede once stole it to imprison the Cloaked Nightmare.

Trivia

  • When shooting a star (whether charged on not) into a small upward slope (like the slight slopes on Battleship Halberd's main platform) the star will hit the slope, spin in place for a second, and then disappear.
