Article on Super Mario Wiki Birdo

Birdo is a character that originates from the Mario universe and appears on the Mushroom Kingdom II stage and as a collectible trophy (which is needed to unlock the Mushroom Kingdom II stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee).

Role in the Super Smash Bros. games

Birdo will appear on either side of the screen of the Mushroom Kingdom II stage. It shoots three eggs from its mouth and then exits on the side of the screen where it came from. Any character that makes contact with the egg will take damage. The eggs can be shielded, jumped on, and air grabbed. Sometimes items come out of the eggs. It is possible to KO Birdo by attacking it or throwing items at it, but it will return to the stage later on. Birdo will flash blue when it takes damage. A few attacks will KO Birdo. No bonus points are rewarded for doing so.

Egg Damages

  • Does 24% when thrown normally
  • Does 49% and explodes when smash thrown
  • Breaks when used
  • Will rarely release an item
  • It is the only item which will always explode in one circumstance and never explode in another

Trophy Description

First seen in Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo is known for shooting eggs and fireballs from her mouth. Mario and friends would have to jump on to the eggs in midair, pick them up and throw them back at her. Long missing from the Nintendo scene, Birdo recently reappeared in Mario Tennis and Super Mario Advance.

Game: Super Mario Bros. 2 (10/88)

Also, gaining the Birdo trophy will unlock Mushroom Kingdom II.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Trophy Description

A pink creature of indeterminate gender that some say would rather be called Birdetta. A big ribbon on its head is its most distinguishing feature. In Super Mario Bros. 2, you can return fire on Birdo by jumping on the eggs shot from its mouth. Be careful not to get psyched out by fake-egg fireballs!
