One of the two Vulpixs that appears in Ultimate is its bulbapedia form. Once summoned, it will attack opposing fighters with its Icy Wind (こごえるかぜ, Chilling Wind). Alolan Vulpix blows a gust of chilling air towards their target and surrounding opponents, inflicting damage and temporarily freezing them once they come into contact with the attack.clr

The normal form uses bulbapedia to attack, which manifests as a fireball attack similar to Ness's PK Fire. Unlike PK Fire, it does not need to hit an opponent to create a pillar of fire. It will turn towards an opponent before using Ember. It will randomly fire at an angle between 5°-25° downwards, causing it to sometimes land near Vulpix or far away. Ember will deal 4% if the shot makes contact with the opponent and then 2% every 9 frames (0.15 seconds). The fireball and fire pillar deals a bonus 1% shield damage.

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, several bulbapedia Pokémon alternatively had Alolan bulbapedias, which have adapted for the differing habitats from their origin region — among those was Vulpix; whom its species adapted as an Ice-type variant, with its evolution now requiring an Ice Stone; and Ninetales, adapted as an Ice/Fairy-type both exclusive to Sun and Ultra Sun. All regional variants have differing visual traits to make them recognizable from their origin species; Alolan Vulpix, in comparison to its origin species, noticeably has a slimmer body, rounder ear shape and a different curly fur pattern on its head and tails. Appearances in media other than games include an Alolan Vulpix nicknamed "bulbapedia" (シロン, Shiron) featured in the Sun and Moon animated series as Lillie's first Pokémon, having hatched from an egg.

Like its normal form it will turn towards opponents before using Powder Snow. Also like its normal form the angle is random, though the attack's range is almost always the same making the randomness not as impactful as it is with Ember. Powder Snow's size gets slightly bigger as it moves and will deal 14% at the start, 13% from frames 3-6, 11% from frames 7-9, then drops down to 2.5% for frames 10-14, 2% from frames 15-19, 1.8% from frames 20-29, and finally 1.2% until the cloud dissipates.

Vulpix (ロコン, Rokon) is a creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Origin[edit]

Vulpix is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue, though it was exclusive to Blue, acting as the equivalent to Growlithe in Red. Vulpix is categorized within the Pokédex at #037 as the "Fox Pokémon", and it evolves into Ninetales with the help of a Fire Stone.

Several Generation I Pokémon alternatively had Alolan regional variants, introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. They are adapted to a specific habitat in Alola, differing from their region of origin, Kanto, requiring aesthetic and type changes — among those was Vulpix, exclusive to Pokémon Sun and Ultra Sun, inversely becoming an Ice-type Pokémon and requiring an Ice Stone to evolve. An Alolan Vulpix nicknamed "Snowy" is featured in the Sun and Moon animated series as Lillie's first Pokémon.

The regular Vulpix uses Ember, a damaging Fire-type move, while Alolan Vulpix uses Powder Snow, a damaging Ice-type move that hits all adjacent opponents in a double or triple battle.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

As a Poké Ball Pokémon[edit]

Both Vulpix in its normal form and its Alolan form make their debut as a Poké Ball Pokémon in this installment.

Vulpix[edit]

The normal form uses Ember to attack, which manifests as a fireball attack similar to Ness's PK Fire.

Alolan Vulpix[edit]

The Alolan form uses Powder Snow to attack, inflicting damage and temporarily freezing them once they come into contact with the attack, similar to the Ice Climbers' Blizzard.
