Revision as of 04:11, January 22, 2023 by Cookies and Creme (talk | contribs) (→‎Trivia: words like “interestingly” and “humorously” shouldn’t be used since that’s relatively subjective. Leffen being part of top 8 is irrelevant to the trivia and, as a top 10 player, should be expected. A player making top 8 at a tournament but not at another is also not trivia)

Trivia

  • Guildhouse held Pre-Genesis 9 the day before the event, as well as DeGenesis (Genesis 9) after the first and second days of the event.
  • This marks the first overseas appearance for Armada since 2019, although he is only attending GENESIS 9 as a commentator.
  • This is the first GENESIS tournament where the Melee singles entrants outnumber the Ultimate singles entrants.
  • Due to the lack of motivation and being disappointed at his placement on the SSBMRank 2022, Mango chose to sandbag the tournament with Dr. Mario, eventually losing to Taj and Matteo for 97th (marking his worst placement at a Melee tournament). His decision to do so sparked backlash from the community for his lack of sportsmanship.
  • This tournament marks the first modern Melee supermajor to feature two Jigglypuff players in Top 8 (Hungrybox and 2saint respectively).
    • The last time this occurred at a Melee major was during Apex 2014 (where Hungrybox and s0ft both made Top 8).
  • This is the first tournament where SilentSpectre and Tang have entered Melee doubles since the Wombo Combo: 10 Year Anniversary.
  • This tournament marks the first time moky has defeated Hungrybox offline.
