Sumabato SP 68 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major held in Daito City, Osaka Prefecture on April 12th, 2026.
Tournament summary[edit]
This event initially reached A+ tier on the UltRank 2026 TTS. However, due to disqualifications from #16 seed Umeki and notably, #14 seed Yoshidora and #3 seed Hurt (both due to illness), the event dropped to A tier. Regardless, this event remained a major.
This event was known for being #35 seed Ataru's cinderella run. Following a hiatus from competition the year prior, Ataru would return to form and make Top 8 winner's side at a major for the first time in his career, upsetting Karaage along the way (UF 6). Ataru would immediately lose to Kuroponzu for the first time, dropping to the loser's bracket. Ataru went on a tear through loser's bracket, winning game 5 sets against Taikei (UF 5), Asimo (UF 7), and Kuroponzu in the runback to make Grand Finals for the first time. To the shock of many, Ataru would dominantly take a set off of #1 seed Doramigi in a 3-1 victory (in an UF of 10), and marking the first time since KOWLOON with Sumabato where Doramigi lost to a player outside of the Top 20. Doramigi would rebound against Ataru in a 3-0 for the Grand Finals Reset, giving the former his first major victory of the UltRank 2026 season, and his first since Kagaribi 14 in November.
Almost two years after his own cinderella run at Sumabato SP 47, aforementioned Kuroponzu made his second major top 8. After a close call in pools, he upset #10 seed Raki 3-0 (UF 2) as well as #2 seed Raru in a close game 5 (UF 7) to make top 8 winner side, before falling to #1 seed Doramigi and losing the runback against Ataru for 3rd place.
Lastly, #12 seed Taikei is the last player to enter top 8 despite not being a top 8 seed, making the longest loser's run of the tournament. After losing in his third set to #53 seed Matsu, he eliminated 7 players in a row to make top 8, including Rei Mari (who had upset #7 seed Snow game 5 for a UF 7), Hero, MarK, before beating #5 seed Rarikkusu in a close game 5 set. He bowed out at 5th to Ataru's Roy.
