DELTA 5 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Ota, Tokyo, Japan, from September 23rd-24th, 2023.

Tournament summaryEdit

The tournament saw several notable upsets on top Japanese players. The most notable upsets include #59 seed Leaf over #6 seed zackray (upset factor 7), #22 seed Jagaimo over #3 seed Shuton (upset factor 6), and #54 seed Ly over #11 seed Gackt 3-2 (upset factor 5). In the end, only three players seeded in the top 8 made it into the top 8: Shuton was eliminated by Hurt in his Loser's runfor 9th; #5 seed Asimo was eliminated by #9 seed Yaura 3-0 for 9th; zackray was eliminated by #39 seed Nietono 3-2 (upset factor 6) for 33rd; #7 seed Kameme was eliminated by Nietono in his Loser's run for 9th; and #8 seed Hero was defeated by #25 seed Noi 3-1 (upset factor 4) and #37 seed Repo 3-1 (upset factor 5) for 33rd.

The tournament's most impressive run was from #10 seed Hurt: after losing to Kameme in Winner's Quarter Finals, Hurt won 8 games in Losers, defeating several of Japan's best players including Shuton, Nietono, KEN, Yaura, Miya, and acola, to place 2nd, marking the best Snake tournament run since Ally's win at Pound 2019. Hurt's win over acola marks the first time since Smash Ultimate Summit 6 where acola lost to a player that wasn't Sparg0. In addition, Hurt was given an invitation for Port Priority 8 due to being the highest-placing player who was not previously registered to attend.

Outside of Hurt, #39 seed Nietono also made a notable run, defeating players such as Zackray and Kameme to place 7th, Nietono's first-ever top 8 finish at a supermajor. In addition, Leaf finished 13th, marking the highest-placement for a Robin player at a major or supermajor.
