Gold Fighter is a transformation from the Mario series that appears as a status effect in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Gold Fighters deal more knockback to opponents from direct attacks and throws, but projectiles are unaffected. The effect is accompanied by a damage output multiplier, indicated by a red particle effect around the affected fighter.

The stage Golden Plains applies this status to fighters that collect 100 Coins. In Ultimate, Xerneas turns the summoner gold. In Ultimate, the Spirit Battle condition "The enemy is gold" makes the Puppet Fighter a Gold Fighter.

Origin

The effect originates from the Gold Flower power-up, introduced in New Super Mario Bros. 2. With it, Mario can transform into Gold Mario, a variant of the Fire Mario transformation that allows Mario to shoot golden fireballs that turn breakable blocks and enemies into coins.
