Unveiled at E3 2006, Wario (ワリオ, Wario) is a character appearing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Wearing his WarioWare outfit, Wario has an attack where he builds up flatulence over time and later releases a deadly fart called the Wario Waft. What was apparent in the most recent trailer is that he walks on his tiptoes. In the small amount of footage revealed at E3 2007, Wario was shown to use a completely different animation while moving, which had no missing frames, adding to the mystery. Wario has an attack in which he tries to eat the foe and subject them to the garlic stench in his mouth, called Chomp, as well as a midair attack in which he turns upside-down and rams enemies with his head, his Dair.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Very high horizontal aerial movement speed
  • Fast, high priority aerials
  • Up Aerial can juggle and kill
  • Bike-jumping can be used to help recover, or as an edgeguard technique
  • Bike can be destroyed if it is on the platform to yield fast projectiles
  • Heavy
  • Can eat incoming projectiles or items to block their attack and charge the Wario Waft
  • Wario Waft when fully charged deals incredible damage and knockback, and can help Wario's recovery
  • Can Crawl
  • Strong attacks
  • Many grounded attacks do not have an obvious wind up animation, making it hard to tell which move he'll use
  • Forward smash has super armor frames
  • Down throws can be chained together
  • Foward Air can Wall of Pain very well because of his aerial maneuverability like Jigglypuff

Cons:

  • Bike can be stranded on stage or recently destroyed, disabling it for Wario's recovery
  • Up-B is very poor for recovery
  • Wario Waft takes two full minutes to charge, and is fairly worthless without a full charge
  • Besides the slow forward and down tilts, attacks lack very much range
  • Wario Waft can result in SD off the top of the stage if used at the wrong time due to the extreme height of the boost

Standard Moves

Ground Attacks

  • Dash A - Trips and falls flat on his face, sliding a small bit. Fairly weak
  • Neutral A - Left hook, then right hook. Decent knockback, but very short ranged
  • Forward Tilt - Punches a large fist forward. Fairly slow, but one of Wario's few attacks with any range
  • Down Tilt - Stabs two enlarged fingers at the ground in front of him. Again slow, but again one of Wario's few ranged attacks
  • Up Tilt - Raises both hands above his head, with 3 fingers raised for W for Wario. Decent vertical launcher for combos
  • Forward Smash - Shoulder charge from Wario Land
  • Down Smash - Spins rapidly on the ground, like a breakdance kick, except hitting with his head
  • Up Smash - Head grows as Wario spins, hitting multiple times with the head

Aerial Attacks

  • Forward Aerial - Sticks his foot a short distance forward. Short ranged and very little damage or knockback, but very high speed and priority. Best used for "wall of pain" style attacking
  • Down Aerial - Turns upside down and spins, drilling with his head
  • Up Aerial - Claps above his head. High knockback, can KO easily
  • Neutral Aerial - Extends his hands to slap, and spins in place
  • Back Aerial - Throws his head backwards, hitting with it, entire body horizontal. If he lands while performing this, he will fall onto his back

Grabs and Throws

  • Forward Throw - Wario Sling Ding, from Wario World.
  • Back Throw - Hits them backward with his butt.
  • Down Throw - Throws them on the ground and then jumps on top of them, knocking them a little away
  • Up Throw - Throws them in to the air and jumps his head up in to them.

Role in The Subspace Emissary

After Kirby does battle with Petey Piranha, one of the cages in which Petey holds either Princess Zelda or Princess Peach will break, depending on which cage the player damaged more while battling Petey. The Princess who the player saves will escape with the player; Wario traps the other in the form of a trophy and takes off with the trophy on his shoulder. He is revealed to be a member of the Subspace Army. Wario then hunts down Lucas in an abandoned town, dispatching Porky to corner him and weaken him. Porky is defeated by Lucas with the help of Ness, but Wario appears and captures Ness. Wario then loses his trophies to King Dedede after he is ambushed by Waddle Dees. Wario tracks Lucas and his partner, the Pokemon Trainer, down and fights them. Wario is defeated and left behind. When Galleom's Subspace Bomb detonates, the area of Subspace expands and absorbs Wario's trophy. Wario appears at the end and aids the heroes in their battle against Tabuu.

Event Matches

Event 4: Cleaning House in Skyworld- The player controls Pit and apparently, you have to destroy the platforms in Skyworld while Wario both attacks you and inadvertantly helps destroy the platforms. [1]

Special Movements

Taunts

Side: Dances with his rear facing the screen.

Down: Makes two separate Wario signs, then puts them together.

Up: Laughs, drops his jaw, then pushes it up again.

On-Screen Appearance: Crashes in sideways on his bike, jumps off, and his bike explodes while he poses.

Victory Poses

  • He does a donut on his bike and makes a "W" sign with his hand.
  • He laughs gloatingly and then falls over.
  • Pats his belly, releasing a fart that after smelling, results in an "Oooh..." from Wario.

Costumes

Wario in his overalls.

Wario has a "special outfit": which is his "classic" overalls look in most of his adventures. Additionally, one of Wario's color schemes appears as one of Mario's original "red-overalls" look. This somewhat mirrors the fact that Mario has an outfit that looks like Wario's (which he still does in Brawl). Wario is the only character who has 2 different outfits (a biker-type outfit and his classic overalls look) with 6 color schemes each, totaling up to 12 possible costumes.
