Bad Things Happening to Good People was a single-elimination, all best-of-1 online tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, held on September 4th, 2021 by WhyDo. True to its name, it featured an unconventional joke ruleset that took full advantage of Ultimate's notorious online netcode, having no region locks, disqualifications for anyone who requested a lag test, and the option to gentleman to any game. The tournament prided itself as the first online Smash tournament with a vaccine mandate, maintained by the honor system. The prize pool was $500 ($300 contributed by Panda), which went entirely to 1st place.
A Rivals of Aether bracket with the same rules was held on September 5th, with a $300 prize pool contributed by the game's creator, Dan Fornace.
