Taiwan is a Smash region that encompasses the country of the same name. The majority of the events are hosted on the main island in the capital, New Taipei City, Kaohsiung City, or Taichung City. Events have also been hosted in Hsinchu City, Tainan City, and Taoyuan City. The region is located in East Asia, with the closest neighboring scenes being China, Hong Kong, Okinawa, and the Philippines. The region sees a fair amount of cross-play with Hong Kong and Okinawa, as well as SoCal.

The current scene began to develop just prior to the release of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. MJelly would create the region's premier monthly, Xi Gai Tong (XGT), in 2017. The region's most well-known player, ShiNe, would begin competing during this era, while splitting time living in SoCal and Taiwan.

The scene would see significant growth after the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Mjelly would establish the Fist Bump International tournament series. The second edition of the series, Fist Bump International 2024, would be the region's first superregional, with prominent players like MkLeo and MKBigBoss in attendance.
