Ontario
Ontario is a Smash region that encompasses the Canadian province of the same name. It borders Manitoba to the west, Quebec to the east, and the United States regions Midwest (bordering Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Pennsylvania) and Upstate New York to the south. Ontario itself is also often split up into two halves: Northern Ontario, which encompasses the cities of Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, North Bay, Timmins, and Dryden, and Southern Ontario, which encompasses the Greater Toronto Area or the Golden Horseshoe area.
Ontario is Canada's most populous province, and is the home to Canada's capital Ottawa and largest city Toronto. As such, it boasts the largest and strongest competitive Smash scene in Canada, especially since the mid-2010s, with many of the country's best players originating from the region. The first notable player from the region was KirbyKaze, who became one of the best Melee players in the world in the early 2010s. Since then, many other players have established themselves as some of the best players of their respective games, including SuPeRbOoMfAn, one of the greatest Smash 64 players of all time; moky, one of the best Melee players in the post-Slippi era; Mistake, one of the best Smash 4 players in the game's final year; and Riddles, one of the best Ultimate players in the early years of the post-pandemic metagame. Alongside its playerbase, Ontario is the home of Even Matchup Gaming, the organizers behind the Get On My Level series, Canada's largest tournament series, and one of the organizers behind the Tristate tournament series Luminosity Makes Moves.
