The Ruins (遺跡, Ruins) is the fourteenth stage of The Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Overview[edit]

The Ruins is a side-scrolling maze that has many obstacles, secrets, and Subspace enemies. Ivysaur is found as a trophy and captured while Charizard has to be defeated to be captured for the Pokémon Trainer's use. After catching Charizard, the Pokémon Trainer and Lucas reach a dead end.

After The Subspace Emissary is completed, The Ruins can be replayed and will contain a secret door that leads to a battle with Wolf. Defeating Wolf rewards the player with him joining the player's party and unlocking him (if he is not already unlocked).

Trivia[edit]

  • This stage contains the most places where a player can be crushed.
  • Each time a trap door button is pressed, the timer for the next time that button is pressed slightly increases. This mechanic is likely included to prevent slow characters from getting stuck indefinitely, and to ensure less skilled players will eventually make progress. This does not occur in optional bonus rooms.
  • This stage is one of six in the Subspace Emissary that do not begin with a cutscene. The other five are The Plain, The Swamp, The Research Facility (Part II), The Subspace Bomb Factory (Part II), and The Great Maze.
  • This is one of the four pre-Subspace levels which features background music not from the universe of the characters that went through it, the others being Sea of Clouds, The Swamp and Battleship Halberd Exterior (Mario music on a level with Lucas and Pokémon Trainer).
