Toon Link (トゥーンリンク, Tūn Rinku) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He was announced on the official website on September 26th, 2013, the release date of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in Japan. He retains equipment exclusive to The Wind Waker version of Toon Link, such as the Master Sword, Hero's Shield, and Wind Waker. In addition to being a playable character, Link from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks appears in a similar cel-shaded style in the background of the Spirit Train stage. The name Toon Link can be misleading, as it is just a way to distinguish him from regular Link. In actuality his name would also be simply Link, but the Toon in front of the name is a reference to the style he is rendered in, compared to regular Link's more realistic appearance. He is only referenced as Toon in the Super Smash Bros. games and not in any of the games in which he has appeared
Toon Link is overall much brighter in this game, as well as his proportions appearing more closely to his most recent appearance in The Wind Waker HD.
Changes from Brawl
Toon Link appears to be majorly buffed from Brawl to SSB4, in terms of both power and speed. A few nerfs have been made.
Toon Link is slightly heavier than in Brawl.- Toon Link appears to dash faster.
- Hookshot grab has significantly less ending lag, and follows a straight path like Link's hookshot in Super Smash Bros.[1] It can also latch on to ledges from a much greater distance.
- His grab aerial comes out much faster.
- Up throw has less base knockback allowing for better follow-ups.
- Down aerial is stronger.
It now goes through opponents and has a small windbox.
- Hero's Bow charges faster and travels further charged.
- Boomerang travels a longer distance.
- Forward smash and up tilt have been sped up.
- Up smash is stronger, and can now KO reliably under 100%.
- It deals less damage.
- Back throw is much stronger.
- Down throw has higher knockback growth, limiting its use at higher percentages.
- Back aerial has more ending lag.
- His air speed is much slower than it was before, and his falling speed is faster.
Spin Attack now has a green sword trail which resembles that seen from the move in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
- However, it is much shorter in the air and relies heavily on momentum, and also halts Toon Link in the air once it starts finishing. Combining this with his slower air speed and higher falling speed, his recovery has worsened.
- Down smash's first hit has higher knockback growth, limiting the move's damage racking utility but enhancing its KO power.
- Side taunt now shows Toon Link looking at a fairy.[2]

- Toon Link
- NA: This cartoonish version of Link is how he appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and a few other titles. In Smash Bros., he uses moves much like his older, taller counterpart. His small size gives him extra speed, though, so take advantage of that to send your foes flying.
- PAL: This cartoonish version of young Link is how he appears in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and a few other titles. While he shares some moves with his older counterpart, he's a very different fighter. Take advantage of his size and speed to whirl past enemies and bombard them with long-range attacks.
- Toon Link (Alt.)
- Toon Link's Bomb move doesn't deal much damage, but the blast radius is pretty big. His bombs can be thrown in all directions, damaging or distracting your foes. Also, his up special Spin Attack keeps him airborne longer than Link's version. For some launching power, use the side smash attack.
