The Underground Maze is the Zelda series-themed level found in Adventure Mode in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It is designed like a labyrinth, with branching pathways, and also has Zelda enemies, such as ReDeads, Like Likes, and Octoroks.

There are six open spaces in the dungeon, one of which contains a pedestal with the Triforce, which is the stage's exit. The other five contain a pedestal with a Master Sword, which will summon Link to fight the player. If all five Links are defeated before the Triforce is reached, the player will receive the Link Master bonus. The location of the Triforce is random.

The Underground Maze is available through hacking, though entering one of the open areas may cause unwanted results, such as the game crashing or the match ending.

Just like Temple, this stage occasionally plays the theme Fire Emblem, though one can force it to play by pressing the L or R button before starting the level.

The first dungeon as it appeared in The Legend of Zelda. This is an example of how the dungeon system works in the game.

In The Legend of Zelda, Link had to go through underground labyrinths called dungeons. In each dungeon, Link had to explore the dungeon in order to find keys and other items to proceed through the dungeon. If Link missed something, he had to backtrack and find it at some point. In Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, the dungeons were renamed to palaces and used a side-scrolling format, which added platforming elements. In Melee's Adventure Mode, there is a Zelda-themed level called Underground Maze. The level is similar to the dungeons in The Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link, except there are no locked doors or keys to collect. Since the Super Smash Bros. games are side-scrolling games, the level has a side-scrolling format similar to Adventure of Link.

In both The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link must pull the Master Sword from its pedestal. In Melee, if a player goes into a room that has the Master Sword in its pedestal, Link will appear and fight the player. The design of both the sword and pedestal is based around Ocarina of Time. In A Link to the Past, when Link is trying to find the Master Sword, he comes across multiple fake swords used as decoys for anybody looking for the real Master Sword. It unknown whether or not the Master Swords in the Adventure Mode in Melee are fake, but due to how many there are and how they just disappear, it could be just used as decoys for the player. In The Legend of Zelda, the goal of each dungeon is to find a piece of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to clear dungeon. In Melee, the goal of this level is to find the one room that contains the whole Triforce, as opposed to finding pieces of one Triforce like in The Legend of Zelda.
