Wario is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. mod Smash Remix. He was added into the mod in its v0.9.2 release on March 15, 2020. Wario was the first character added to Smash Remix to not be a clone of any of the existing fighters. Compared to his depiction in the canon Smash games, all but one of Wario's special moves were replaced and his portrayal is closer to his depiction in the Wario Land series instead of the WarioWare series, as the latter did not exist at the time of Super Smash Bros.'s release.
Wario's voice clips consist of archived recordings taken from Mario Kart 64's international version, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl provided by Charles Martinet.
Attributes[edit]
Wario's portrayal is closer to his depiction in the Wario Land series instead of the WarioWare series, as the latter did not exist at the time of Super Smash Bros.'s release, thus many of his moves have been changed to reflect this.

- Points at himself with his thumb before giving a thumbs up, saying "I'm-a Wario. I'm-a gonna win!". (Also his CSS animation.)

Profile[edit]
Wario is a crude, greedy man and an old childhood friend of Mario and one of his biggest rivals. Jealous of his red clad rival's fame and fortune he first tried to overtake Mario's castle, but was promptly defeated by the man himself. Since then Wario has been trying to get rich by treasure hunting. He's sometimes willing to offer his help with his impressive durability and immense strength... for a price of course.
Works:
- Super Mario Land 2 (GB)
- Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 (GB)
- Virtual Boy Wario Land (VB)
Alternate costumes[edit]
- Default: Based on his appearances in Mario Tennis 64 and Mario Golf 64.
- Red: Resembles Mario's appearance in Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., and other early games. It also resembles his "left" color in Mario Golf, but with a red hat instead of blue. Compared to the equivalent costume in the official Smash games, the hue of red and blue used is closer to the Mario Golf costume.
- Green: Based on his "right" color in Mario Golf.
- Blue: Resembles Mario's appearance on the Japanese (resale version) and European covers of the NES version of Mario Bros.
- White/Black: Based on his "down" color in Mario Golf. It also resembles his original Game Boy sprites in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land.
- Purple: Based on his appearance in the NES version of Wario's Woods. His skin is recolored to match.

Trivia[edit]
- Wario's artwork on the character select screen resembles a piece of artwork made for Mario Tennis, albeit with the eyes adjusted.
- Wario was the first fully original character added to Smash Remix.
- Selecting Wario on the character select screen and waiting without advancing to stage select will cause him to grimace and say "Hurry up, will ya?" every 40 seconds. This even happens on the VS Results screen and the other victory poses.
- Wario's polygon variant has no reference, and has been stated by a developer that it was created to be "goblin-esque".
- Holding the taunt button while performing Wario's neutral special will cause him to say "Here I go!".
- During development, the team considered giving Wario a two-handed fist attack that would spike opponents as his down air, but this was ultimately cut.
