Banjo & Kazooie are a playable duo character in the Super Smash Bros. mod Smash Remix. They were added to the mod in its v1.5.0 release on January 4, 2024. Most of Banjo & Kazooie's normal moves are pulled from their Ultimate iteration, but all but one of their special moves were replaced, and the one that was kept was reworked compared to how it functioned in Ultimate.

Banjo's and Kazooie's voice clips consist of archived audio taken from Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie provided by Chris Sutherland.

Victory poses[edit]

  • Banjo plays his banjo while Kazooie plays her kazoo in time with the pair's victory theme.
  • Kazooie pecks Banjo's head, with her giggling while Banjo rubs his head growling, until the pair poses with Banjo putting his hands on his hips. (Also their CSS animation.)
  • Banjo grabs a Jiggy and does part of the Jiggy dance. When Kazooie pops out, Banjo then puts his arm out, with putting the Jiggy in front of the pair as they pose.

In Remix Modes[edit]

Remix 1P Mode[edit]

Banjo & Kazooie can appear as an ordinary opponent, giant opponent, or as a multi-man team, where they are fought on either Spiral Mountain, Mad Monster Mansion, or Frosty Village. He can also appear in Stage 4 as a team with Conker called "Rare Pair", in reference to Rare Ltd., the company that made both Banjo-Kazooie and the Conker series, where they can be fought on Spiral Mountain, Mad Monster Mansion, Windy, or Frosty Village.

All-Star Mode[edit]

In All-Star Mode, Banjo & Kazooie and their allies can appear on Frosty Village.

Profile[edit]

In Spiral Mountain's countryside

A Honey Bear and Breegull duo reside

Tooty gets taken & the pair make haste

To stop a witch from stealing her waist

With help from the Jinjos, Mumbo and more

Kazooie & Banjo would settle the score

Defeating Gruntilda not once, but twice

Though Bottles ended up paying the price

Where they go from here, no one knows

Perhaps on a new adventure, we suppose

Works:

  • Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
  • Banjo-Kazooie (N64)

  • Default: An amalgamation of Banjo's low-poly appearance in Diddy Kong Racing with embellishments from his more detailed appearances in the Banjo-Kazooie N64 titles.
  • Black/Orange: A combination of the pair's black and pink costumes in Ultimate, where Banjo's color scheme is based on Bottles the Mole, while Kazooie resembles her color scheme in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Banjo's red shorts and Kazooie's orange color palette are also reminiscent of Bottles's vest, further connecting the pair to Bottles's color scheme.
  • Blue/Green: Based on the Player 3 color scheme for Banjo & Kazooie in Banjo-Tooie's Squawkmatch multiplayer mode, albeit with a recolored backpack.
  • Green/Purple: Based on the Player 2 color scheme for Banjo & Kazooie in Banjo-Tooie's Squawkmatch multiplayer mode.
  • Yellow/Pink: Based on the Player 4 color scheme for Banjo & Kazooie in Banjo-Tooie's Squawkmatch multiplayer mode, albeit with recolored shorts and backpack.
  • White/Black: Banjo's color scheme is based on Boggy the Polar Bear, while Kazooie resembles a real-life gentoo penguin. Compared to the equivalent costume in Ultimate, Banjo's exposed skin is a lighter tone, which is more accurate to Boggy's skin tone.
  • Orange/Red: Based on Banjo's appearance in Diddy Kong Racing, where his fur was a lighter color than it was in the Banjo-Kazooie series.[1] As Kazooie wasn't in Diddy Kong Racing, her color scheme is instead a modification of her default one, making the tip of her beak the same color as the rest of it, as well as changing the yellow tips of her feathers to be white.

Trivia[edit]

  • Banjo & Kazooie's character select screen portrait is based on their render from the Japanese box art for Banjo-Kazooie.
  • Banjo & Kazooie's profile is written entirely in rhyme as a reference to the series antagonist Gruntilda Winkybunion, who spoke entirely in rhymes in almost every game in the Banjo-Kazooie series (except for Banjo-Tooie, where her sisters Mingella and Blobbelda force her to stop it early on).
  • The development team had experimented with having Banjo & Kazooie's run be the Talon Trot like in Ultimate, but weren't able to make it look as good as they wanted, and also had issues having it transition between the pair's other animations.
  • Banjo & Kazooie's intro tagline "Banjo & Kazooie Complete the Puzzle!!!" references the various golden puzzle pieces called Jiggies they collect in their home series.
    • This also references the fact that they were the last character revealed to fill out the Smash Remix character select screen in the 1.5.0. update.
  • Banjo & Kazooie's polygon variant respectively resembles a Jinjo and Kazooie in her Dragon Form.
