Crash is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. mod Smash Remix. He was added to the mod in its 2.0.0 release on June 25, 2025, serving as the second of two characters representing games released on rival platforms to the Nintendo 64, the other being Sonic. Crash is the ninth character added to Smash Remix not to have been playable in an official Smash game, the fourth of those characters to have their own slot on the character select screen, and the third character after Conker and Marina to represent a universe unrepresented in the official games. In Crash's case, he represents the eponymous Crash Bandicoot series. Crash's character design and animations take from his in-game appearances in the PlayStation Crash games, being a goofy but anxious character as opposed to the confident and outwardly aggressive personification seen in American promotional materials.
Crash's voice clips consist of archived recordings taken from the PlayStation installments of the Crash Bandicoot series provided by the late Brendan O'Brien and by Chip Chinery.
Attributes[edit]
Crash is a middleweight character known for having a really extensive and fluid combo game. He also has great mobility, as an example, Crash's dash gives him an instant large burst of speed, allowing him to quickly move in and out of situations quicker than a dodge would allow, and it can be cancelled into his neutral special, allowing him to extend combos over a long distance easily. Interestingly, Crash is also one of the few characters to have a forward throw that launches upwards.
Moveset[edit]
| Name | Damage | Description | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Neutral attack | 8% | A headbutt. | ||
| Forward tilt | 13% | A kick. | ||
| Up tilt | 10% | An uppercut. | ||
| Down tilt | 10% | Crash pushes his arms out in front of him. | ||
| Dash attack | 12% | Crash dashes forward while throwing his fist out. | ||
| Forward Smash | 18% | Crash swings his leg to kick in front of him, moving him forward slightly. | ||
| Up smash | 17% (clean), 9% (late) | Does a bicycle kick, like Fox. | ||
| Down smash | 15% | Crash spins on his head while stretching his legs out. | ||
| Neutral aerial | 6% | Does two kicks in front of him, like Captain Falcon's forward aerial. | ||
| 12% | ||||
| Forward aerial | 15% (clean), 8% (late) | Does a flying dropkick. | ||
| Back aerial | 16% | Flings his head backwards to do a backwards headbutt. | ||
| Up aerial | 15% | An upward arcing headbutt. | ||
| Down aerial | 12% (clean), 8% (late) | Thrusts both feet down in a stomping motion. | ||
| Grab | - | Crash reaches forward with a bear hug. | ||
| Forward throw | 10% | Bends down before flinging the opponent upwards. | ||
| Back throw | 14% | Throws the opponent backwards between his legs as he hops. | ||
| Floor attack (front) | 6% | Gets up and performs a 360° spinning leg sweep. | ||
| Floor attack (back) | 6% | Sits up and does a spinning backhand slap all around him. | ||
| Edge attack (fast) | 6% | Climbs the ledge and does a quick leg sweep in front of him. | ||
| Edge attack (slow) | 6% | Climbs up and then charges forward with a headbutt. | ||
| Neutral special | Spin | 8% | Crash does his spin attack, where he twirls around and hits anyone in his path. The distance traveled during the move is longer if he does it out of his initial dash. If performed on an item, it will knock it off the stage. | |
| Up special | Belly Flop | 6% (during the rise), 8% (slamming to the ground) | Crash jumps up and twirls before slamming down to the ground on his stomach. This move does not gain much height before he begins to plummet below, making for a rather poor recovery. A move introduced in Cortex Strikes Back. | |
| Down special | Diggin' It | 14% (popping out of the ground) | Crash burrows into the ground. If the B-button is held, he stays underground for 3-4 seconds before jumping out with his legs split apart. While burrowed in the ground, Crash can go through extremely low ceilings that players cannot normally cross through. Crash is not intangible while burrowed into the ground, but he can more easily dodge attacks. A move used in the levels "Diggin' It" and "Bee-Having" in Cortex Strikes Back. | |
On-screen appearance[edit]
- Does a Belly Flop out of a warp portal from the Time Twister Machine.
Taunt[edit]
- Pulls Aku Aku out and puts him on his face, before Aku Aku flies off his face. During the part of the taunt where Aku Aku is on his face, Crash is invulnerable.
Idle poses[edit]
- Stops and looks both ways with a confused expression.
Crowd cheer[edit]

| Description | Go - Crash! *claps 3 times* |
Victory poses[edit]
- Spins before doing a "ta-da" pose, based on his animation when he obtains a gem in Crash Bandicoot.
- Does the Crash Dance, using the original crotch chop and pelvic thrust instead of the censored "Running Man" version introduced in the N. Sane Trilogy. (CSS animation, starting from the crotch chop.)
- Crash sleeps as Aku Aku looks over him, shaking himself towards the end of the animation.
Techniques[edit]
Dash spin[edit]
Crash can gain a lot more horizontal momentum and travel much farther from his initial dash if he cancels it into his neutral special. This also allows him to extend combos over greater distances and travel faster in general.
Instant flop[edit]
If Crash's up special is used within the first few frames of leaving the ground after jumping, Crash will instantly flop on the floor as if he had just landed from up special. Since the move is so fast, it can be a really quick and strong way to hit anyone on the ledge because the hitbox reaches inside the ground a little bit.
Spin jump[edit]
Crash can jump at any point during his spin attack, and this allows him to combo into aerial attacks more easily after a spin. This can be done in combination with the dash spin to allow for greater mobility and combo fluidity.
In Remix Modes[edit]
Remix 1P Mode[edit]
- Crash can appear as an ordinary opponent, a giant opponent, or as a multi-man team, where he is fought on the Time Twister or the Snow Go stage.
All-Star Mode[edit]
- In All-Star Mode, Crash and his allies can appear on the Time Twister or the Snow Go stage.
Profile[edit]
Crash Bandicoot is the spinning, crate-smashing powerhouse of the Wumpa Islands. He was captured by the evil Dr. Neo Cortex from the wild and subjected to the horrific Evolvo-Ray. To Cortex's dismay, Crash would become the mad scientist's downfall rather than the general of his mutant army. Time after time, this infernal bandicoot not only foils Cortex but also dances upon the pathetic remains of his ill-conceived plans!

Trivia[edit]
- Crash's portrait on the character selection screen greatly resembles his appearance on the box art of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back.
- Crash's stock icon is based on the memory card save icon for the original game.
- Crash's 2D art has him with pie-shaped eyes, a trait that exists in his Japanese promotional art, but has only been seen in-game in Crash Tag Team Racing, where it was a cosmetic locally and the default design in Japan, and in the Japanese-developed Crash Boom Bang! where the Japanese art style was used universally and internationally.
- During Crash's clapping animation, he gets distracted midway through, looking behind himself before going back to clapping.
- Crash is the only character to have a home stage that transitions into its Remix variants.
- Crash's Break The Targets and Board the Platforms stages have a hidden extra life. Once collected, the song will change to the Crash Bash loading screen theme.
- Crash's intro tagline "Crash Crashes The Party!!!" is a play/pun on his own name being used in verb form.
- Crash is the only Remix character whose skeleton model has visible clothing (his sneakers and pink, polka-dotted boxer shorts), which is a reference to one of his many comedic death animations in Cortex Strikes Back and the N. Sane Trilogy remake, specifically by electric hazards.
- He is also the second Remix character whose skeleton model has visibly different colored hair, the first being Bowser.
- Crash's polygon variant bears a striking resemblance to Pinstripe Potoroo, the fourth boss in Crash Bandicoot, albeit much shorter and without a gun.
